Mines United ended a difficult season on a rare high, claiming a 1–0 victory over Green Eagles in Kabwe to complete a league double over their opponents.
Maximilian Mushimba scored the only goal of the game in the 43rd minute, sealing what was just Mines United’s third win of the campaign.
Prior to the result, Mines United had not won since 31 January — also against Green Eagles in a 1–0 victory. Since then, they endured a 16-match winless run, losing 13 and drawing three.
Despite consistently troubling Eagles in their head-to-head meetings, Mines United finish bottom of the table with 18 points from a possible 102, managing only three wins across the entire season.
For Green Eagles, the defeat is a minor setback in an otherwise steady campaign. They finish fifth with 50 points, although they could still drop as low as eighth depending on results involving ZANACO FC, Mufulira Wanderers and FC MUZA.
Mines United’s relegation was confirmed earlier, but the final-day win at least offered a small consolation after a season of sustained struggle.
