Former Chipolopolo striker Collins Mbewuma has been named in Kaizer Chiefs legends squad for the Toyota Cup.
The Toyota Cup is set for Bloemfontein this weekend.
Young Mbesuma, who was only 20 years old, took the South African football scene by storm in 2004 when he joined Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, netting 35 goals in his first season with Amakhosi ā 25 of those were in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Those 25 goals remain the highest tally to be managed by a player in a single season.
Mbesuma is also only one of five players in the PSL-era to score 100 league goals after scoring a combined 103 goals for the clubs he played for in the South African domestic league.
In addition, until the 2022/2023 season, the retired soccer star was the only PSL player to have won the PSL top goalscorer award, called the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot, on two occasions.
Others include Bernard Parker, Thuso Phala, Siphiwe Tshabalala, and Reneilwe Letsholonyane.
The Kaizer Chiefs legends team will be taking on Bloemfontein Celtic legends in a curtain-raiser match before the pre-season friendly between Amakhosi and Tanzanian club, Young Africans in the inaugural Toyota Cup.
The match is set to take place on Sunday, 28 July at 15:00 at the Free State Toyota Stadium. The Legends game kicks off at 12:30 pm before the main event later.
The team blended together most players who were active between 2000 and 2010 with those who played from 2010 to 2020.
