Lwandamina: We are doing our best to make Zambia proud

Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina has said he is not happy with his team’s draw against  as his team was aiming for maximum points going into the game.

Speaking after seeing team throw away a 1 – 0 lead to draw 1 – 1 against Group E leaders Congo, Lwandamina commended his team for putting it in a good fight.

“We cannot be happy with a draw because picking a point was not our objective. The boys fought well considering that some of them came in today while others came in yesterday and they played as if they had been in training together for a long time. If they can play like that, then we have a good team.

With Congo and Zambia moving to 5 points each while minnows Guinea Bissau, who stunned East African powerhouse Kenya with a 1-0 home victory, Lwandamina is aware that the group is tight.

Lwandamina remained optimistic going into the return match to be played on Sunday in Brazaville.

“We are not in an easy group but we are doing our best to make the country proud. Sometimes playing at home puts a lot of pressure on the players but if they can maintain level heads when we go to Congo we can put away the created chances.

“We will use today’s result as a motivation for us to do even better in the next match. That is our short term objective but the long term objective is for us to qualify to the final tournament in Gabon,” Lwamdamina said.

Zambia remained level on points with Congo after drawing in Ndola but Congo lead the group on goal difference.

  1. If I was Lwandamina, I would call Mayuka to partner Kalengo. Mbesuma is too slow now. Mbesuma would do well as a super sub. It was evident in yesterday’s game that Mbesuma was very tired and should have been substituted. The coach should have pushed Katongo upfront to play just behind Kalengo, substitute Mbesuma and bring in Chansa to partner Sinkala as an attacking midfielder. Our right and left full back were also tested and found wanting. Kabaso should start at right back. As for left back we have no option but stick with Kabamba. I only wish Mbola and Singuluma were called to have a larger pool of reliable substitutions. But we have a stubborn coach who does not listen. The coach got the tactics all wrong. A loss in Congo will spell doom for Zambia. Having said that, Zambia can still win in Congo if they can play the entire 90 minutes an attacking football, while defending as unit.

  2. Its looks like this clueless coach can’t see that our defence was porous? He’s right, he’s doing his best to turn us into laughing stocks..

  3. it is very sad to see pepo like Nostra, a veteran of zamfoot sink his mind so low below a 14yr and blame kamanga admin for that draw, ba nostra come back to your mature senses and accept that this is not zimbabwe or uganda, councellors chose to remove kalu and thats it, swallow your bitter pill and pull your support to kamanga, he is your football president now, grow up man, which fans or players looked sad yesterday????

  4. We need Mbola on the leftbaack. Mbola is doing very well and is better than Kabamba. He defends well and overlaps to supply number 11, in this case Kalaba. We need our best weapons to make progress. Katebe played well with Sunzu, what went wrong with him that he nowhere to found around the team? congo is not cheap, remember how they butcherd Nigeria in their own back yard in Akwaibom state last year?
Mayuka is now active, and by any standards you cannot compare him to Luchaga.

  5. Every time there is a defence partner to Sunzu. We need a permanent defender to partner him. As far as I am concerned, Munthali is the right person to partner Sunzu. The coach’s love for Buffaloes and Zesco players only is costing us results. OK, am told Munthali is banned for a few months. Thats understand but we need him later after serving his suspension.

  6. @Billy i would like to disagree with you on that one Adrian Chama was a mountain of a defender in yesterday he was in my opinion the man of the match

  7. E bola munfwa.

Question 1- did the Congo Brazaville team come to Mwanawasa to lose the game with such good quality of players?

    Answer- No

Question 2- Does Zambia have a stable team that can be grouped at anytime, without ample time to gell and show best performance?

    Answer- No

Analysis: Zambia remains one of Africa`s soccer power houses. However, a lot of things have not happened in recent past to guarantee consistent results, especially wins and no one person deserve the blame. Lack of investments, lack of creativity, lack mental toughness among our players to manage success (2012 euphoria), lack of transperance in managing affairs at FAZ, poor player selection (5 player GB FC). the list can go on and on.

We need to develop the character of our footballers so that they begin to look at football career beyond FAZ league and PSL. We need to train them to understand what it means to manage change, success (money and fame) as well as failure.

I personally look forward to a Chipolopolo team that comprise players in the likes of KK 11 upto Gabon air disaster when never had to worry about player fitness and time for gelling. We need to move away from mechanical football to more organic or fluid play characterized by intelligenct and accurate moves and passes.

Am still confident though that going into the Sunday game in Congo, the lads will raise to the occasion.

Finally, abashi continued politics- change is inevitable even at FAZ.

My strong opinion and not yours!

    Apapya walya!

    • We are not a powerhouse on the continent . No country shivers because they have to play Zambia. Yes, we need to develop the game infrastructurally & also build the mental toughness on the part of the players. Good insight, brother.

  9. I think Lwandamina doesn’t have a right assistant coach, let that cricket player leave us in peace, now that King Kalu is gone, I think Kamanga should look at that issue seriously.

  10. katongo was ok I was surprised to so him substituted. the coach coated us the game. MBESUMA was not suppose to play in the second half. its better to remove mbesuma and bring in SAUTU. the return march plz call mayuka to partner kalengo let him go directly to Congo. otherwise we can beat Congo even at their back yard with mayuka and kalengo upfront.

  11. Ba n’gambi if you have not played football before keep quiet.I for one have played football and coached school teams and abit of amateur teams. A lot goes on in football and not only on the pitch. Mind you Congo also wanted to win. We played well and just did not utilise the chances.to my opinions players seemed happy in yesterday’s game even recalled katongo, kalaba, mbola, and all in short. However Congo’s defence also did well.As for the upcoming star luchanga don’t even demean him as most of times he is given cameo appearances but he is our future kelvin mutale

  12. Kalu brought good ideas with selfish motives. Coming to the game against CONGO, our defence was disorganized. Kabamba was as good as a bridge. He never impressed me at all.I don’t know why he played the whole 90 mins.George you must learn to listen. In CONGO use Nkausu as the left back, Kabaso as the right back.Mind you,we have new administrators, you will be chacked out!

  13. Kabamba played well its only that we drew thats why people are saying that. If want to replace Kabamba with Mbola organise two high profile friendly games for assessment otherwise in all the competitive matches he( Mbola) featured has been a suspect . Look for Joseph Musonda if he doesn’t improve this year then we have to go back to Stephen.
