Zambia 0 – 0 Cape Verde (As it happened)

Chipolopolo coach Honour Janza has named an attacking line-up in the final group stage match for the Chipolopolo as they take on Cape Verde in a make or break match.

Zambia cannot afford anything less than a win if they have to avoid getting on the next flight home.

Janza has pushed Given Singuluma up to take up the position of injured Emmanuel Mayuka while Chisamba has slotted into the central midfield in what is expected to be an attacking formation.

Zambia XI vs Cape Verde:

Kennedy Mweene, Davis Nkausu, Emmanuel Mbola, Christopher Munthali, Stoppila Sunzu, Khondwani Mtonga, Lubambo Musonda, Chisamba Lungu, Evans Kangwa, Given Singuluma, Rainford Kalaba (C)

  16. At the end of it all, I sense we will be talking about all the chances Zambia has had and never capitalized. Everything up to this far has worked in our favor, but lack of leadership from Coaching staff, Faz and no Chris Katongo’s game command is killing us.

    • Yep! Chisamba is having a quite game by his standards and I mean by this for the better or for the worse!

    • Yeah I have been having nightmares about this game and terrible weekend with my ISU Cyclones getting smoked by a useless Texas Tech team and then Mayuka not playing…adding the fact that our coach is suspect does not help at all.

  17. 44′ Zambia 0 – 0 Cape Verde

He misses the next game if Zambia qualify

  20. 45+2′ Zambia 0 – 0 Cape Verde
CV come very close with the resultant free kick as Mweene watches the ball roll just wide of his far left post

  21. Munthali has been a suspect, withdraw Chisamba ba Coach and bring in Sautu to protect the defense. Sunzu is looking solid but Munthali is a let down , 1. he is just playing aimlessly chidunune type ati chintaluke.
    2. He seems to be afraid each time the opponent faces him and when he is with the ball. We need some quick changes , Where is Sate Sate please.

  22. This match must be postponed,,,the weather is un playable on top of the lighting and thunder which is danger to the players out on the pitch,,,

  23. At some point Janza needs to take some chances. He shouldn’t wait until 5 minutes to go in the game to make substitutions.

  24. 54′ Zambia 0 – 0 Cape Verde
A tricky bounce of the ball on the wet pitch almost catches Mweene but he manages to punch away

  25. 56′ Zambia 0 – 0 Cape Verde
The rain subsides but the pitch is still bad as Kangwa is just late on making contact with a Kalaba cross

  26. WOOOW!! NATURE CALL IS TEMPTING THE MATCH..WHERE DOES THIS RAIN COMES FROM?

WELL, I BELIEVE ZAMBIA WILL WIN THIS MATCH..THE CHIPOS ARE PLAYING THEIR HEARTS OUT.

WELL,, TUNISIA LEADING BY A GOAL TO NIHIL IN THE OTHER MATCH.

    • THIS A VERY SAD DAY FOR THE CHIPOS-I WAS LIKE ,THINKING THE RAIN SPOILED EVERYTHING THAT THE CHIPOS HAVE TO PLAY CAPE VERDE..

THE FIELD WAS WET, BALLS CANT MOVE FROM THE LOCKED WATER STAINS ON THE FIELD, PLAYERS WERE WET, I MEAN, PLAYING FOOTBALL IN THIS CIRCUMSTANCES CANT WORK..

ANYWAY, TUNISIA AND CONGO DREW WITH A GOAL EACH..

BOTH TEAMS QUALIFIES TO THE QUARERS..

  27. Historically, this was when Kalusha would save the day and score in the 90th minute; can they sub him in from the stands?

  28. 68′ Zambia 0 – 0 Cape Verde
CV trying to shoot from range but Zambia is not shooting enough and the pitch is heavy to play on the ground into the box

  29. 75′ Zambia 0 – 0 Cape Verde
Good one two by CV but Mweene saves
Zambia attack immediately and this time move the ball well into the box but Kangwa dives and is booked for simulation

  30. 78′ Zambia 0 – 0 Cape Verde
Clear chance for Kangwa after he is set up by Chisamba but he fails to hit the target from close range

    • Don’t expect this ref to add any extra time; you would think they’d be 5 minutes added time with 23 fouls on Zambia compared to 7 fouls by Cape Verde.

  31. Janza has got to be one of the worst coaches I have seen in recent memory. Flat tactics, mistimed substitutions, no clue of whats going on in the game, the list is endless.

    • KALU IS MORE TO BLAME THAN JANZA! WHY EMPLOY A NONE TESTED UNTALENTED ASSISTANT SUCH AS JANZA! THE BUCK HAS TO STOP WITH KALU! PATRICE ADMITTED HE ISNT READY TO COACH NATIONAL TEAM BUT KALU FORCED THE ISSUE THEN WENT ON TO CHOOSE A “COACH” WITH LESS EXPERIENCE THAN PATRICE! IS THIS GUY SERIOUS!

  32. Finally zambia is out again….. just like 2013, hope u guys will respect yourselves now… Instead of singing aboout a fluke 2012 afcon…

They wwere even making noise that they would win it like 2012 in equ. guinea

    • How do you “fluke” to win the Africa Cup? This is the most idiotic commentary so far today. You do realize Zambia beat Ghana, Senegal and Ivory Coast to lift the trophy right?

      • most idiotic indeed, yet you guys can’t make it out of group stage since then. not even one afcon match win…either draw of lose……

      • 2014 BOTTOM OF GROUP WITH ONLY 2 POINTS OUT OF NINE?
Yes we beat the best teams in Africa (Ghana, Senegal and Ivory Coast) but what has come out of that feat? NOTHING. We still use our 2012 jerseys hoping it will bring us luck. STUPIDITY.

  33. This is the best thing to Zambian football. We should learn that USELESS COACHES CAN NOT TAKE YOU ANYWHERE. MY DAY IS MADE UP , THIS CALLS FOR CELEBRATIONS. THANX KALU THATS THE WAY TO GO.

  34. now that you are out, hope u will go to the drawing board and look for way forward instead of putting herve renard matter for head.

From tomorrow now, you will see some losers here shouting renard as usual when u should concentrate on your game…

  35. We told Janza to include experience in the team. I fail to understand how the novice Kangwa and Mukuka failed to score with clear cut chances minus any defender. Chris or Fwayo can’t fail to score from those positions! Janza u r an idio.t!

  36. This has been so embarrassing, ba Coach sure yo subs where misplaced, the Ngoma boyi was just running aimlessly and making fouls , Mukuka also was a big let down! I thought Sautu and Kampamba would have been better options. Mukuka failed to use his sixth sense I think thats the reason why Sundowns loaned him to Celtics

  37. So Zambia has not won in 7 AFCON matches. Wow. Not won since 2012. They tried, but time to build off the positives and not just scrap everything. I wouldn’t mind Janza staying on, but if we are getting a new coach there needs to be a transparent process for selection.

      • Tc…I think with enough time. Janza.can find a way to bring the best out of these players. Granted, his ability to read games is terrible as shown by his late substitutions. I say this because he finds a way to improve the team play from game to game. Look at the turn around in the qualifiers and look at the way Zambia played in the first game then the second and the third is hard to rate because of the stupid rain. He was also not afforded real preparations. 1 friendly dude, that’s all he had.

  38. Guys. This tournament came down to player form. There are basically no top club performers aside from Sate Sate and maybe Kalaba. Not one goalscorer on the team and we expect to do well, just can’t happen. The biggest positive is we are.moving forward and our performances were pretty positive after that first game. The rain derailed us today.

  39. I did not want to comment. But honestly, how can you send a cosafa/cecafa team, a coach who never won any league in the country to AFCON.These are the results.Surely, Gentlemen if we had mantained that team which played Brazil it would be a different story by now.

    • why do you guys like talking about the past… you can’t use the same number of players for straight 2,3,4 years……
Talking about brazil game, remember it was in a friendly match, you can’t compare friendly with tournament. Didn’t you beat cape verde in qualifier. Tournament is always different…

      • SAME PLAYERS FOR TWO TO THREE YEARS ARE KALABA, SUNZU, MWEENE, CHISAMBA, KABASO CHONGO, C. KATONGO, MWEENE, MBOLA, MAYUKA, RODGERS KOLA, FWAYO TEMBO, JACOB MULENGA AMONST OTHERS; NOT BAD COMPANY! THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS REPLACE WHEN YOU HAVE A BETTER PLAYER TO TAKE OVER AND DONT REPLACE WITH A FAR LESS TALENTED PLAYER! THINK OF PAULO ROSSI 82, 38 YR OLD ROGER MILLA ’90, CHRIS KATONGO IS ONLY 33 YEARS OLD! UNLESS UR SAYING THE NATIONAL TEAM SHUD BE AS A RULE OF THUMB, CLEANED OUT EVERY 2 YEARS! 33 IS YOUNG FOR A MIDFIELD/STRIKER!

  40. WELL SAID DANIAL “THE BULL” AMOKACHI! C.KATONGO WAS DENIED THE OPPPORT TO CAPT TO BREAK THE RECORD BY CAPTAINING ZAMBIA AT AFCON FOR A SIXTH TIME! KALU IS A PROBLEM!

    • Awe ba mudala. Katongo denied himself that opportunity when he started bickering with the coach or brought a girl to his hotel room, whichever story is true. You can’t carry a player who has issues with the coach period.

      • JOHN TERRY SLEPT WITH A TEAM MATES GIRL FRIEND AND CAPELLO THE DISCIPLINARIAN SIMPLY DEMOTED HIM FROM CAPTAIN BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT TERRY WAS NEEDED!

  41. let’s respect our own; the coach was not offered a contract- when he voiced that out the honorable Chishimba Kambwili came out and said ‘that is insurbodination at the highest order.’ These acts are very unprofessional and unethical as well.

  42. KALUSHA’S RUNNING OF FAZ FROM SOUTH AFRICA, THE NON TRANSPARENT SELECTION OF COACHES WITH THE HIGH PROBABILITY OF KICK BACKS IS KILLING ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL!

  43. As pointed out by john, there is smethng strange about kalus insistance that the team camps in SA. Evn their depature days are delayed to prolong their stay in sa. Kalu and kamwili are up to smethng and it poses a big risk to the health of our players being forced to play in hostile conditions like blisstering hot sudan so kalu cn mke more money on the side!
