Lessons learned says Zambia Under-23 coach

Zambia Under-23 coach Osward Mutapa Jnr has applauded his side’s performance despite failing to qualify to the Algeria U23 African Cup of Nations.

The Olympic team managed to hold Egypt at home on Sunday but that result was not enough.

Zambia had suffered a 2-0 defeat in the first leg in Cairo.

“I think when we went to Egypt the team showed tactical discipline and we defended bravely, until the last 15 minutes,” Mutapa said at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in a post match interview.

“Lessons learnt in that we don’t have to concede more than a goal when you’re away.

The Nkwazi coach was also asked about his selection.

“The players that we have are the players we felt were available at the time. But I know even when we have to say that let’s get some players maybe three quarters of the same players can be returned,”

Egypt U-23 qualified for the tournament with the top three nations advancing to the Olympics in Paris

  1. OH SHUT UP & JUST RESIGN. As a coach and leader:

You have failed and embarrassed your own selection of players & the nation at large. Who defends through out two (2) encounters.

NEXT assignment ba FAZ (U17 Afcon) let us pick boys who are able to fight for their coach, team, nation & most importantly for themselves.

  2. Zambian coaches are always a let down. They think we don’t noticed their questionable selections and poor tactics . They also never learn, if he was compitent enough he was going to learn from the mistake his failed friend at the under 20 did.

  3. There was no team there, no play maker, no tactic. In future FAZ should pick coaches who are successful at league level to coach the age group teams! Oswald Mutapa , which team has he coached that has won even league championship in Zambia? None. So what CV does he have to warrant him coaching a national team?
