Kalaba on target for Mazembe v Club America

Rainford Kalaba’s goal is all TP Mazembe will have to show for after their outing to the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan ended with a 2 – 1 loss to Club America of Mexico.

Of the Zambian quartet at the tournament, only Kalaba was named in the starting line-up after coach Patrice Carteron made up to five changes to the team that lost a3 – 0 against Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

However, Mazembe were already trailing by two goals by the 28th minute.

The Chipolopolo captain however weighed in with a face saver in the 43rd minute.

Kabaso Chongo was also given a run in the 61st minute in the right back position.

Given Singuluma and Nathan Sinkala were both in the starting line-up for Mazembe in the Sanfrecce game.

TP Mazembe was playing Kalusha Bwalya’s former team, America, in a formality match in Japan to determine who will come out last at the FIFA Club World Cup.

    6th position in a 7 team tournament ahead of Auckland city(OFC representative) is not good at all.

  2. This is a clear indication that zambian players can perform on the world stage what is lacking is coaches. Also poor administration and selection of players has killed us and made us a disgrace.

  3. Poor administration, poor preparetion is everywhere in Africa. Most of us blame the coaches when they failed to deliver. Some of the coaches fail due to circumtances beyond them like poor administration from the FA, players not interested in playing, clubs not interested in releasing players for the national team, training. We see these things in almost if not all African countries.

    Nigeria are the reigning CAF U23 champion. But going by the preparations the team had prior to the tournament, the naija U23 shouldnot have won it.

    Nigeria U23 team coach Samson Siasia has dropped a bombshell by saying his team did not deserve to be champions of Africa if their preparations for the U23 AFCON were anything to go by.
    Nigeria beat Algeria 2-1 in Saturday’s final to clinch the second edition of the tournament, which also doubles as a qualifier for the Olympics.
    Former Super Eagles coach Siasia said his team’s build-up to the U23 AFCON was nothing to write home about.
    “From how we prepared, we did not deserve to win anything. It was just a miracle we won,” lamented the coach.
    “We had to manage everything, from kits to what have you, for the past one year.”
    He added: “Motivating the boys was not easy at all, it was tough but thank God we survived it.”

    Siasia’s Dream Team VI were criticised after the first two games for conceding two goals in the second half after a convincing lead in the first half.

  4. The players should also learn how to sacrifice for the national team whenever they are calld upon to reresent the national team. The u23 guys were paid $12k, but most of them won’t go to Rio next year. Key players of the naija u23 team are in europe and were not released for the caf tourney.

    Dollar rain for African Champions
    EACH Nigeria play-er was paid the Naira equivalent of $4,000 after they beat Algeria 2-1 to clinch the 2015 AFCON in Dakar, Senegal, on Saturday night and this brings to a total of $12,000 each player was paid.
    “We have been paid our winning bonus for the final,” a player confirmed on Sunday morning.
    They would not have got anything had they lost the final. In total, each player received the Naira equivalent of $12,000 for winning the U-23 AFCON. Coach Samson Siasia was paid double this amount.
    A further breakdown showed the team were for the final win, $3,000-a-man for the semi-final win over hosts Senegal, $2,000-a-man for the opening-day win over Mali, and $1,000 for the draws with Egypt and Algeria.
    They were also paid $100 per day for the 10 days they trained in The Gambia prior to this championship, which amounted to $1,000.

  5. TP has a serious problem: the DRC league is not competitive enough! Players are not regularly tested against strong and organised opposition except in the CAF Champions League.

  6. Night clubs, cheap women, Rhumba,Simba; these wud b missing in Europe! Kalaba wud end up going AWOL! Katumbi makes sure Kalaba gets all these on a silver platter.

  7. European football is not as helpful to African players as it was some ten to twenty years ago. Many players are being benched or played out of position there by not developing as predicted. Many talents have been wasted lately. The idea of playing in Europe is not like before.
