Kalaba, Given, Kabaso play in Katanga derby, Moses Phiri awaits debut

Rainford Kalaba, Given Singuluma and Kabaso Chongo on Wednesday afternoon all played for TP Mazembe when they drew 0 – 0 against Lupopo in the Katanga derby.

With the CAF Super Cup game in sight to be played between Mazembe and Etoile du Sahel on Saturday, coach Hubert Velud rested some key players but added enough strength to the team to ensure they remained top of the log.

Kalaba was played in a more central attacking midfield role while Singuluma who has thrived under the new coach scoring a number of goals was in an advanced attacking role.

In Congo/Kinshasa there was no goal scored in the Lubumbashi derby between TP and Lupopo. Nonetheless, TP still finished top of its pool, so qualifying along with 7 other teams (Lupopo included) countrywide for play-offs. Singuluma, Kalaba and Chongo played the entire match. In Portugal, Moses Phiri was for a second successive game an unused substitute when his club Academico Viseu drew 0 – 0 away against Freamunde.

The Zambian hitman still awaits his debut for his Segunda liga club.

  1. Nkausu didn’t make the Freestate stars team against Pirates last night. Hopefully he hasn’t already fallen off the coaches radar. FS stars won 1-0.

  2. Black Aces who in my opinion have thrown away points by drawing their last three games will have a mountain to climb when they play two PSL giants in three days. They play Pirates on the 21st and Sundowns on the 24th. If they can get four points from these two games it will restore their chance of title contention. Hopefully Mbesuma comes into both games with his scoring boots nicely and tightly laced on.

  3. Ghana defender Baba Rahman has been named among the UEFA Champions League Team of the Week for this midweek after excelling for Chelsea in their game against PSG.
The Blues left-back had an excellent game even though his English side suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the French giants in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League.
The former Kotoko defender was handed a role at left-back lasted the entire duration of the game to global applause for his showing in the game.
As a result of that Baba has been named among the best eleven players to play in Europe’s flagship club competition.
The former Augsburg defender was close in assisting Chelsea’s opener in the 18th minute after sending in a cross to Spanish attacker Diego Costa only for the latter’s header to be tipped away by the PSG goalkeeper.
The Ghanaian international played a nice one-two with Willian before sending in a cross from the left hand side which almost got Chelsea the lead.
The 22-year-old maintained his composure at the back by keeping away PSG danger man Angel Di Maria in most part of the game.
His excellent surging run in the 79th minute saw him being fouled by Lucas Mora who had no option than to bring the defender down after the Ghanaian found his way past his opponent.
Baba received a pass from Willian before outwitting Mora only for the Brazilian to pull him down on the edge of the penalty box.
His performance was however not enough to help his side avoid defeat at the Parc de Princes in Paris
