Chipolopolo coach Honour Janza has summoned 2013 Zambian footballer of the year Bronson Chama to the national team currently in camp as he tries to fill the gap left by injured Nyambe Mulenga in central defence.
A check by the ZamFoot Crew at the National Heroes stadium during the afternoon training session which started at 16:00hrs showed that Janza is working to plug the shaky defence as he has invited two foreign based central defenders to the local camp.
Aaron Katebe and Lawrence Phiri who play in Zimbabwe and Angola respectively were part of the training sessions in the morning and afternoon.
Chama who last played for Zambia when he captained the national team to a third place finish at the Cecafa Cup returns after a long injury lay-off which saw him miss the better part of the 2014 season.
Katebe was part of the team that played that last two qualifiers but did not see any action while former Green Buffaloes defence pillar Phiri last played for Zambia in a friendly under former coach Herve Renard.
Russia based Chisamba Lungu who has been in the country since sustaining an injury on his wrist at his club has also joined the local lads though he trained with his left wrist strapped.
Chama, Phiri and Katebe join Christopher Munthali, Dennis Banda and U20 international Alex Mwamba as they fight for the right to partner skipper Stopilla Sunzu in central defence at the AFCON.
The team called to camp:
Goalkeepers: Danny Munyau, Joshua Titima
Defenders: Lawrence Phiri, Aaron Katebe, Bronson Chama, Christopher Munthali, Alex Mwamba, Dennis Banda, Jimmy Chisenga, Rodrick Kabwe
Midfielders: Spencer Sautu, Shadreck Malambo, Kennedy Mudenda, Larry Bwalya, Chisamba Lungu, Nsofwa Mwansa, Charles Zulu, Bruce Musakanya, Kayawe Kapota and Simon Silwimba.
Strikers: Jackson Mwanza, Ronald Sate Sate Kapamba and Festus Mbewe

kondwani Mtonga must also be recalled.
Chama is too slow for AFCON which will be played at a high tempo! Let Janza give a chance to Katebe and Lawrence…..
I am very worried with the behaviour of Janza. Gentlemen, this coach has a big problem. Remember, when he just started this job, he picked players from Kalingalinga (Fwayo Tembo) who had not played football for over two years. He then picked Mukuka Mulenga who had to recover from an injury which had kept him from playing for over one year. He had to pick Collins Mbesuma who also was not playing for a long time and was very far away from being fit. You saw the effects. The contributions of these players made us almost missing AFCON 2015 final. He also picked Charles Zulu whose contribution was pathetic! He had to leave good players on the bench and some of these players have been discarded from the team. Bronson Chama has not played any football this year and he shouldn’t even thought about him. Why is FAZ just watching?
Seriously speaking Janza needs to recall Kondwani Mtonga sooner than later.
If we are to play South Africa with the above squad then we will be butchered, why not call players who can bring depth to the main team.Kalu and Janza can make one have BP.Honestly do we need Munhali,Festus,Denis ,one on one Festus and Ngonga people who had a better season this corruption thing is what is killing the game.Look at the U20 who were in Zim,the coach did his selection and everyone could see the results. What has Alex Ngonga, that Kasonde boy from power done to Kalu not to be called. All Kalu thinks about is marketing players at the expense of National pride.I think we need to call players that if we are to play a friendly can either draw or win which will be good for moral when you are going to a tournament of that magnitude .
Jimmy Chisenga has been given over 200chances and he has failed us. Let’s try other players like Billy Mutale..
Kalu it is now “EYES ON THE MONEY”ba li paya I kanga na ba nankwe mu FAZ.Some sell ugly jerseys.some sell or get cut from players they recommend so pathetic that they make feel like vomiting.
were is Alex Ngonga ? that man is a fighter and he had a good game in the just ended super league. what are these guys doing ? could it be that they are lacking identification or they just what to sale market the under twenties ? it seems as though they are up for something. and that chama guy is too slow. he is usually bissy with a babble gum. Denies Banda is an intelligent defender. he does not use force but he reads the moves fast. he plays like the late Harrison Chongo. not this slow chama guy.
Iran will be playing Tanzania, Guatemala and Soth Africa in the next two weeks in South Africa. FAZ should also try to utilize the oportunity to play friendlies with some of these teams as they will be in S.A
We seem to panic a lot in defence. Yes Kondwani M’tonga must be recalled but Janza seems to be stturbon. We also need the experience of Joseph Musonda in defence as time is not with us.
Algeria has already named the final 23 man squad so we need to act fast as well.
@Mumbi, has Janza called the foreign contingent yet? If not lets campaign for which ever player we feel is ripe for national team but not condemn the coach before he names his preliminary squad. Mind also that he reads this stuff and he is human. This job is thankless i tell you.
please janza, try out billy mutale and derrick mwansa of power dynamos and nkana respectively. look at how many goals power conceded in the 2014 season, its an indication of how stable the defense anchored by mutale had been.you dont pick players based on past performance or good performance in one game like the case of chama who performed well only in the last game against zanaco. look at dennis banda, what is there to talk about for him to earn a national team call? munthali? its a disaster when against pacey forwards. is richard kasonde still injured? he too deserves a national team call if he is fit, nathan sinkala not at his best.
Billy should have been called instead of the Alex Mwamba. I was actually shocked when he (Mwamba) was called as he’s the weaker of the two central defenders(him and Billy) at PDFC.
I watched Kondwani Mtonga last week. This player is ALWAYS impressive. I just wonder to why our coach has to be reminded each time about straight forward things. The last time, he only called Evans Kangwa after pressure from the fans – what a coach! My prayer is that Kondwani will not be over looked.
…mind you, the Indian League is not as weak as most bloggers claim. It is by far stronger and competitive than our league. I would urge bloggers to find time and watch this league and see the caliber of players from overseas and the coaches in this League. I know most will be surprised.
I also watch it. It is not that bad though it’s full of aged (retirees) players from Europe. But the quality of play is not bad. I have also watched Mtonga. I think doesn’t deserve to be in that league as he deserves something better. If you ask me if he deserves a call up to national team, it’s a straight YES.
I believe he’ll be called as the coach has not finalized the list of foreign based players. When you look at the players called into camp, its mainly composed of locally based players and those plying their foreign trade in leagues which have closed off e.g. Zimbabwe
Sometimes the coach leaves out certain players because they have just recently clinched a professional contract and he wants to help them settle down at the club. It has become a tradition here in Zambia unless those already established in professional football.
Second is that they want to try out new faces in those areas and many times new players have stepped up to the calling which becomes a blessing for us.
Broson Chama and Festus Mbewe should be as far away as possible from the national team because they add no value. They both run at a snails pace.Afcon is not for amateurs!
am in total agreement with P.A. Janza wants to bring back the Kennedy Nketani kind of defenders in the team, its a disaster. mark my words.
What about Nchanga Rangers defender George Chilufya?
George Chilufya is a much better option
Kondwani mtonga can play as a defensinsive midfilder and as a defender That we have all seen and as it is he is in fine fine form.,,,,HE SURELY MUST BE RECALLED
He has to call Mtonga. But maybe hasnt as its too early and his league is still on?
Good luck to all the guys in camp.
ba coach nabena aba kuwayawayafye mwe. of all the people u call festus mbewe? better u call me I can add value to the team and I don’t miss any how.
Yes i agree with you Festus is same as No. That is the part we have a problem with Janza. He is aware of this guy’s deficiencies and if you want to go to AFCON as serious contenders you don’t call Festus type of players.
Bronson Chama is better than useless Munthali …good move ba coach …now bring in Mtonga as well
Bronson and Munthali are not reliable at all.Lets try other players.
Janza should consider Bornwelloo Mwape. The guy has improved and looks angry for goals.
Not at the level of an AFCON striker brother.
Kk ki Ki ki ki,The Great ati you can do better than Festus, kwena mwa li mumwenamo Festus. So Coach select players better than The Great ,Festus and Munthali’.
Awe Festus ena likula serious.
Indian league is done for Mtonga’s team ,why Janza has not called him?and you call pathetic players like Munthali,Festus,Denis is FAZ serious with the squad?all they think about is marketing their useless players.
Let’s pray FAZ disown the senior squad the way they did to the juniors maybe Janza will select players on merit like what happened to the junior team unlike these pathetic players Kalu keeps on selecting all in the name of cut.
kikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikikik
Kondwani Mtonga should be recalled to the national team as soon as possible.
Infact Mtonga does not deserve to be in the Hero Indian League. He deserves a better team. Is he that old to go to India? Katwishi mwee!!!!
He is on a 6 month loan. Which ends sometime this month.
We need Isaac Chansa and ba Muzo
