Jacob counsels Chipolopolo; It’s time to face reality and start work now

CHINA-BASED striker Jacob Mulenga says the nation should face the reality of leaving the Africa Cup of Nations early but that real work should start now.

“It is time to face reality and start the work now. Zambia is full of great talent but let us nurture it well to have good results,” Mulenga said.

He said in an interview from China yesterday that there is a lot of work to be done with the national team.

Mulenga, formerly of Turkish side Adana Demospor, has joined Chinese top side Shijiazhuang Ever Bright on a two-year contract.

“The best I can do is to encourage all Zambian players to keep working hard wherever you are because nothing comes easy. You have to earn it. If you don’t earn it, you won’t value it.

“The national team of Zambia is the biggest watched team in our country. As players we should respect it and have the pride of the jersey. Contribute whatever you can whenever it’s your time and pass it on, for nothing stays, only the word of God,” said Mulenga, who was not selected for the 2015 Equatorial Guinea Africa Cup of Nations.

He commended the players for putting in their best during the tournament.

Zambia finished bottom of Group B with two points, one behind Cape Verde, who were equally eliminated from the tournament. Tunisia and Democratic Republic of Congo progressed to the quarter-finals with five and three points respectively.

“Even though we got out in the first round, there is no one more disappointed than the players and technical staff,” Mulenga said.

  1. We just need to qualify for the u-17 and u-2o world cups. That should be our aim now and build a new team. I’m looking at patson daka partnering Mayuka in the near future. Rodgers kola should also be called to the team he is better than evans Kangwa and provides us a height advantage. We should move forward and build a new team for afcon 2017 and Russia 2018. I really wish charly musonda could play for zambia.

The best quote from Jacob here. It is alarming me to see instead of the media heavilly critisizing Janza allot of the media are actually calling for him to be maintained. The man may have the best qualifications but limited in practical experience, he was handed Faz technical director and handed assitant coach which he has enjoyed for several years, he has been handed head coach and now the trial is over. There are other local coaches who in the face of it deserve a chance more than Janza who has had all the chance in the world now. It is highly questionable to again hand Janza more after a failure of that kind! I supported him taking over at the begining as he was best placed but he should have hit the ground running, not the way he did, but mid way through qualifiers sealed it for me that he should not coach at Afcon. Afcon was yet more proof.

Jacob here is commenting about the long term big picture, if you dont now start on the right foot you are lost again. Much of the media supporting Janza hasnt even got an argument for Janza to stay, im yet to hear one. Janza Didnt have focus and certainly didnt the focus the players who watching i dont think truely respect him, think about that.

  3. @Seen from afar Correct, correct. Janza must be shown the with immediate effect. The post must be advertised. The government must deliver in soccer and work closely with FAZ

  4. Seen from afar. You are right .A good coach cannot take over 10 games before coming up with a stable line up.We keep choping striking partnerships like clothes!Jacob is right,we need to face REALITY!The AFCON is a reality check for us.All those calling for a contract to be given to janza are not giving football reasons but merely stating the ‘Local coach song.’Janza has a lot to learn before he is ready to handle such responsibilities.

  5. If Janza wants to be a good coach he should go out in the real world and earn his way like his fellow local couterparts are doing, he wont earn his way by being given free reign to fail as Chipolopolo coach.

    Thats another hard truth, sorry.
