After a vigorous search for a new head coach, Power Dynamos have finally settled for former Nkwazi boss, Osward Mutapa.
Mutapa was unveiled as the New Head Coach at Power Dynamos Football Club on Tuesday morning at the PDFC secretariat in Kitwe.
Mutapa has put pen to paper on a 2 year and 6 months contract with possibilities of extension if he performs well.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony Power Dynamos Vice president Ferdinand Menzu said the EXCO and the entire Power Dynamos are confident in Mutapa and his abilities.
“We are confident that he comes with a lot of experience and backing to guide our team to great heights,” Menzu said.
“And as EXCO we will give him the full backing and we expect our fans to also back him.”
“We hope that the performance will enable us to extend the contract thereafter,” he added.
Mutapa takes over from Mwenya Chipepo who left the club last November to Join Forest Rangers
The Zambia U23 National Team boss will continue with Linos Makwaza and Songwe Chalwe as first and Second assistant respectively.
The Club is highly expectant of him as he is a very experienced coach having been at the helm of several Zambia Super League sides and coached all the Zambia Youth ranks.
“Our expectations is that he will take the team to greater heights looking at the Zambian league those greater heights are winning the league and local cups and obviously doing well in the continental”
Meanwhile Mutapa has described the job as an exciting challenge.
” It’s an exciting challenge but it’s not a walk in the park , looking at how the teams are performing but with determination and working together nothing is impossible,” Mutapa told the ZamFoot Crew.
Mutapa has said he’s short term goal is to ensure the team gets back to playing continental football , And has expressed confidence in the current squad.
” We have Quality players ,we just need to be determined to achieve something,” he said.
“It’s also about hard work ,which starts from training and not anywhere else.”
Mutapa recently left Lusaka based side Nkwazi after a mutual separation following a year at the summit at Edwin Imboela Stadium.
Mutapa joined Nkwazi in January 2023 while the team was embroiled in a serious relegation battle and helped them survive relegation.
Nkwazi are currently 7th on the log with 30 points within just 3 points of Power Dynamos in third position.
