Ireen Lungu wins the golden boot

Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club star player Ireen Lungu walked away with the golden boot after netting five goals at the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifier.

The female Computer, netted twice against Young Buffaloes before scoring a hat-trick in the 4-0 demolition of Olympique de Moroni.

Lungu did not find the back of the net in the final but had done enough in the first two games to carry home the golden boot.

She was a contender for player of the tournament but was surprisingly snubbed and given to Sundowns forward Melinda Kgadiete.

Meanwhile the Golden Glove accolade also went to Green Buffaloes, Goalkeeper  Aisha Mbwana taking the accolade home following an impressive showing as she kept three clean sheets in as many games.

  1. To me Ireen Lungu wholeheartedly deserved to win the’ Player of the Tournament’ award.
I visualised the tournament as follows:
    GBW-FC (the Golden Buffaloes): Played 3; Won 3; Drawn 0; Lost 0; Conceded 0
    Mamelodi Sundowns: Played 3; Won 1; Drawn 1: Lost 1; Conceded 2

Which of the 2 teams above deserved a Player of the Tournament Award?
Alternatively, I would have given it to Lushomo Mweemba, but not to any Sasafilikan Player. They did not deserve any accolades.

  2. Congrats to GBFC women’s club and Irene Lungu for the Golden Boot, but having watched the whole final game, I think the better team didn’t win, as the Zambian team lacked that technical superiority, More than 90% of their passes were aimless! That shows that the technical bench is not equal to the task. The whole game plus extra time finished without a single threatening short at the South African goal by GBFC. Mamelodi Sundowns actually had a high accuracy passing rate! So the the GBFC bench has to pull up their socks before representing the country at the Total Africa Club finals!

  3. Congratulations we mwana, ala Lesa ukupale apakalamba pakubika pamulu weshina lya fyabupa. Keep it up and please stay blessed focused . Always remembering God in everything you do.
