Lameck Banda makes his Serie A debut

Chipolopolo wing wizard Lameck Banda made history on Saturday as he became the first Zambian player to take part in an Italian Serie A match.

Banda came off the bench to make his debut in the Serie A for US Lecce in a 2-1 defeat to Inter-Milan.

Banda replaced Italian forward Federico de Francesco in the 74th minute to play the last 16 minutes of the match at the Stadio Via del Mare.

The Zambian international was explosive on the wing and had a beautiful shot saved for a corner.

Romeli Lukaku put the visitors in the lead in the second minute heading home a Matteo Darmian cross on his Inter Milan return.

Lecce leveled matters three minutes into the second half, Assan Ceesay with a fine finish from close range.

Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries however broke the Lecce hearts at the death as he netted in the dying minutes to win it for Inter.

Banda completed his switch to the Serie A side last week penning a four year deal to make him the first Zambian to sign for a team in the Italian top flight.

  1. Well done Lameck Banda.
I initially didn’t believe that when you eat rats you can be a very good sportsman. that is how they even ran faster than Tshaka’s pursuing impis.
What is now interesting is to see Zambian football players (both boys and girls-naumfwa umwenso, boys and girls), nabo abaiche beka beka and most of them from very humble football backgrounds mixing it right at the top of global football.

  2. Watched the match on SS5. I was impressed by the young man when he came on. He will do well for the club if he keeps his feet on the ground. The short he took within a minute of being on the pitch almost went if it was not for some good goalkeeping by the Inter keeper.

@Kasama Boy was fortunate to have witnessed all that history though I was a young boy but was a keen sports follower.
