Injury rules Mbesuma out for two weeks

Highlands Park have been dealt a huge blow with news that striker Collins Mbesuma is out for two months with a knee injury.

The Lions of the North forward sustained the injury just before their Bloemfontein Celtic Absa Premiership clash last week and missed their 2-1 win over Ajax Cape Town.

However, coach Gordon Igesund believes the Zambian international will recover as he underwent a successful operation.

Speaking after his first league win over the Urban Warriors, Igesund said the operation was not major, but he will be out for six to eight weeks.

“I’m not sure if you know but Collins went for a knee operation on Monday‚” said Igesund.

“So he’s been out of hospital now for just one day and obviously we’re looking for a quick recovery from him. We miss him a lot because he holds up the ball so well for us.

“It’s not a major operation where players go out for six months with cruciate ligaments. We expect Mbesuma to be out for a period of between six to eight weeks and then start with some little bit of rehabilitation.

“He’s been playing with that injury you know‚ but his mobility wasn’t very good because of the injury. So we had a specialist check it out and I’m hoping that he recovers quicker.”

The Premier Soccer League newcomers will now visit Chippa United at Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
