South Africa men’s national team, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has named a 43 member Provisional Squad for the upcoming international friendly against Zambia.
Burnley striker Lyle Foster leads the squad to face the Chipolopolo next month.
Broos has included some new faces in the team, including Amazulu goalkeeper Darren Johnson, Orlando Pirates midfielder Masindi Nemtajela and TS Galaxy defender Puso Dithejane, who have all been in good form.
Nemtajela has broken into the Pirates starting line-up having initially struggled for game time and he has impressed in a short space of time. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Broos including him in the squad.
Sekhukhune United’s Keletso Makgalwa also features in the preliminary squad and will be hoping to finally make the final squad.
The match is part of coach Hugo Broos’ preparations for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco in December. Coach Avram Grant will also use this opportunity to fine his side ahead of the continental showpiece.

After a disastrous World Cup qualification run, The Chipolopolo have since shifted their focus to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco 2025 which will take place between 21st December 2025 and 18th January 2026.
Zambia is in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, West African giants Mali, and Comoros. The 2012 AFCON winners returned to the tournament last year after an eight year absence but were booted out in the group stage.
Meanwhile Bafana Bafana are in Group B and will face Egypt, Angola and Zimbabwe. Broos’ charges returned with a bronze medal during their last appearance at the AFCON after beating DR Congo 6-5 on penalties at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Côte d’Ivoire to claim third place in February last year.
