If there is a time that Green Eagles has felt the confidence of bugging some silverware in their history as a club is this season.
The Team has already qualified for continental tours, They have also qualified to play the Transition Season final and now calling for urgency matters is the ABSA Cup semi-final coming up on the 15th June 2019.
The team has been pitted against ZANACO who finished second in stream A and the Chief Executive Officer of Green Eagles, Col Jim Kafumukache shares the feeling ahead of the ABSA semifinals :
“The team is focussed and busy Training, looking forward to the game on Saturday against Zanaco in the ABA competition. The boys are highly motivated to deliver. Our eyes are on the cup. We believe this is our time to get the ABSA Cup. This is the first time we have come this close and we will surely finish strong,” says Col Jim Kafumukache.
If there is a way to show how committed Green Eagles is to this cause is the organization of making sure their fans watch the game. Something which the team puts as a priority.
Col Kafumukache attests :
“The Green Eagles support Base is growing everyday day throughout the country. I am happy to mention that many people across the nation are giving us support. We are committed to mobilizing as many supporters as possible to travel to Lusaka to give support to the Team..”
The Colonel is also aware of personal arrangements that are being organized by the fans to travel for the semi-final.
“There are also several people making own arrangements to travel to Lusaka. We highly value our fans and we commend them for what they are doing,” Concludes the Colonel.
This year‘s tournament will only consist of three matches, two semi-finals and one final.
The prizes for the Absa Cup tournament have increased as follows:
Tournament winner – K500, 000 (from K400, 000 in 2018)
Runners up – K250, 000 (from K200, 000 in 2018)
Coach of the tournament – K18, 000
Player of the tournament – K18, 000
Man of the match – K8, 000
In addition, the Man of the match will also receive a year‘s Hospital Cash Plan valued at K135, 000 from Barclays Life Zambia. This entails that for the next 12 months, the player plus his spouse and up to 5 of his children and 4 extended family members will receive a sum of K500 per day in the event that they are hospitalized for more than 3 days.
Is Green Eagles ready to win this one? They have to do what they have mostly been failing to do in the Super League against ZANACO. In the last sixteen games, Green Eagles have only beaten ZANACO twice, losing nine times and drawing five times. This has been in the league.
