Grant to join Copper Queens camp in Germany

Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant is expected to join the Copper Queens on their three week camp in Germany ahead of the Women’s World Cup.

The Israeli gaffer is expected to offer his expertise as the team shapes up for the global showpiece.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has already reinforced the Bruce Mwape led technical bench with the addition of technical advisor, Lisa Cole.

Cole has over 30 years of coaching experience at youth, collegiate, professional, and international levels and is also well-versed in football operations, camps, non-profit work, and coach education.

Her most recent position was Head Coach of the Fiji Women’s National Team and before that, served as Director of Women’s Football and Head Coach for Antigua and Barbuda’s Women’s National team.

Chipolopolo physical trainer Jamie Lawrence will also be attached to the Copper Queens with a video analyst also in line to be appointed.

The ZamFoot Crew understands that Grant could be with the team during the duration of the World Cup as well to help the technical bench in an advisory role and could also help as an opposition watch expert as well opposition analyst.

The Copper Queens are in Group C alongside Spain, Japan and Costa Rica. Prior to the FIFA World Cup they will be in Germany from June 13 to July 8 for an international camp which will see them play high profile friendly matches.

On July 22, the 2022 WAFCON bronze medalists will step onto the global stage for the first time, facing off against the formidable team from Japan.

Four days later, they will take on Spain, followed by a clash with Costa Rica on July 31.

  1. Yes!
DEFINATELY THE BEST NEWS I HAVE HEARD SINCE the so called World Cup preps started.

All the other teams have serious background staff working on tactical approaches to their games and spying on opponents. Whereas BRUCE was left out there in the cold. It was painfully evident against Colombia & Korea that we are miles behind most teams at the World Cup…

We are in a monster of a group! TALENT & PHYSICALITY ALONE won’t get us points at the World Cup. The girls or ladies need a trick or two up their sleeves. They need to be clever:

    1. Individual brilliance might save us where team effort fails. We have players to do that (Kundananji, Grace, Nachula, Barbra, Mapepa etc…) for us.

    2. Set pieces may be our weapon because Spain & Japan will play possession football. Clearly we cant go toe to toe with that style.

    3. We need to be tactically unpredictable. Know when to slow down the game, frustrate opponents & when to shift the gears for the explosive runners & physical players to attack.

    4. Attack is the best defence. Japan and Spain never sit back & watch. They will come at us.

ALL IN ALL Bruce Mwape can now concentrate on the coaching while the technical team explore tactics & spy on the opponents.
