Its an honor and privilege to be here – Mwepu

Spain based forward Francisco Mwepu says it’s an honour and privilege to be summoned for national duty.

The former Kafue Celtic striker is happy to have received his maiden call up to the Senior Chipolopolo side ahead of the penultimate Ivory Coast 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

Mwepu is part of Avram Grant’s provisional squad for the Elephants showdown which is currently in South Africa for a week long camp.

“Definitely I am so happy to be part of the national team. It’s an honour and privilege to represent one’s country so for me I am very happy to be here,” Mwepu said.

“We have settled well, the senior players are helping us.”

The lanky forward recently made his La Liga debut playing for the Cadiz CF main team after an impressive performance for the Cadiz Mirandilla side.

“I am happy to have gotten that call up to the Senior Cadiz CF team. It shows that I am making progress. I just want to keep working hard and improving,” Mwepu said.

The young brother to medically retired former Chipolopolo captain Enock Mwepu has also called on fans to turn up in numbers and cheer the team.

“It is not an easy game but anything is possible. We have to show our quality,” he said.

“We need the fans, it’s an important game. We would love to have a full capacity Stadium so that they cheer us on and we also get the result they want.”

Zambia will host Côte D’Ivoire at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on 17th June in an AFCON 2023 round 5 qualifier.

Ivory Coast are unbeaten on 10 points while Zambia are second on 9 points and need just a point to secure promotion to their first continental football showpiece since 2015.

Comoros and Lesotho are on 3 and a point respectively.
