Government expects Chipolopolo to qualify for AFCON…As Nkandu applauds FAZ and FIFA

Sports Minister, Elvis Nkandu says Government expects the Chipolopolo Boys to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Honorable Nkandu also reiterated Government’s support for the team from the qualification process to the tournament.

Nkandu was speaking at the FAZ annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Government Complex in Lusaka.

“We expect that Zambia will this time around qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations because we can not afford to miss another AFCON tournament,” He said.

“As government we will ensure we give all the necessary support to FAZ because we have the responsility to ensure we support them financially first before we demand for results.

Our support will not only be given during tournaments but it will start with preparations.”

Honorable Nkandu has also commended FAZ for the decentralization of operations to all the 10 provinces of Zambia and the upgrade of Stadia.

“I wish to thank FIFA and FAZ for the stadium upgrades and as government we shall beautiful them once completed. We cannot expect results without good infrastructure.

“We as government wish to further commend FAZ for decentralization of operations. We also want to urge other associations to emulate FAZ in this,” he concluded.

FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has disclosed that works to revamp five stadia around the country under the FIFA Forward Program are progressing well with each stadia gobbling around $300, 000.

The association identified five stadia namely Kaole (Luapula), Maramba (Southern), David Kaunda (Eastern), Kasama (Northern), and Independence (Northwestern) to undergo rehabilitation into ultramodern facilities with the development fully funded by FIFA.
