Zambian players based in South Africa will return to action soon after the Government granted permission for all football activities to resume immediately.
South Africa Football Association (SAFA) confirmed the development in a press statement by the Head of Communications, Dominic Chimhavi assessed by the ZamFoot Crew.
“After 6 months of Covid-19 enforced hiatus, the Government has granted permission for all football activities to resume immediately. However, the Government is warning the public to stay vigilant and cautious as the pandemic is still with us.
Among other things that the clubs need to take care of are:
• The appointment of a Compliance Officer
• Daily screening of Covid-19 symptoms
• Trying as much as possible to observe Covid-19 social distancing
• Sanitization and regular washing of hands
• Wearing of masks as much as possible at any given time, except when training is in session.”
SAFA CEO, Tebogo Motlanthe expressed happiness with the new but asked teams to be vigilant and follow all health guidelines.
‘’We are happy that football will now resume but our members must monitor and ensure that teams follow strict health protocols.
‘’All SAFA health and safety directives must be followed so that we avoid any possible spike of Covid-19 cases,’’ said Motlanthe.
South Africa is home to several Zambian players including Lazarus Kambole of Kaizer Chiefs, Kennedy Mweene of Champions Mamelodi Sundowns while Gamphani Lungu plays for Supersport United.
Justin Shonga and Austin Muwowo who feature for the Buccaneers. Other Zambians in the PSL include Nathan Sinkala at Stellenbosch while Mwenya Cyril Chibwe and Salulani Phiri at Polokwane City, Collins Mbesuma, Rodrick Kabwe among others feature for GladAfrica Championship clubs
Last month Premier Soccer League Chairperson Dr. Irvin Khoza announced that the new football season will kick-off on 17 October.
The DStv Premiership will start on 24 October and will not be played in the bio bubble. Khoza also confirmed that the prize money for the country’s top league would remain R15 million.
With this green light, lower leagues will also resume with fans getting a little hope on the road to return to the Stadiums.
