Algerian midfielder Riyad Mahrez has been named 2016 African player of the year.
Mahrez who plays for English champions Leicester scooped the prestigious title ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon who was first runner and Saido Mane of Senegal.
Others who walked away with awards include Pitso Mosimane who was named coach of he year as well as Nigeria’s rising stars Iheanacho and Iwobi.

Kelechi Iheanacho was voted Africa’s most promising talent three year ago and he still gets the same accolade this year? Interesting.

Riyad Mahrez definitely deserved the award. Great player. You can’t be the best player in England and fail to win it in Africa but I wouldn’t have been surprised if someone else got it. I can only happen in CAF
