The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has signed a new contract for the sponsorship and broadcast of the MTN Super League for another five years. This new extension is with immediate effect and runs from 2015 to 2020 for the sponsorship of US$5million.
In commenting on the signing of the new development, FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya hailed Supersport for the partnership and urged the Zambian football fraternity to safeguard the game and ensure that the country continued on the path of development.
“Our football is in a privileged state. With this five-year extension, live television guarantees our clubs a new platform of opportunity and assures them of a stage from which they can further engage into and or expand commercial ventures based on this guaranteed five year undertaking,” Kalusha said
Adding: “The challenge for us is to continue to work hard as one united family, to continue on the path of development and safeguard the interests, integrity and credibility of our game through exemplary and professional conduct on and off the field.”

KALU does it again, thats a lot of money, invest in the grassroots.
Good for zambian football we also want one cup game like airtel cup were teams from division 1,2,3 and premer league will be competing not just barclays cup only
Congratulations Faz. It’s a very welcome development for Zambian football. Thumbs up and job well done
Kalu and FAZ well done on this one and I believe this will go a long way in improving our local soccer. There is need to look into the youth soccer policy at grassroot level and reintroduce the defunct cup tourneys such as Mosi,Heroes and Unity,Independence,FAZ etc.Find sponsors for these cups and then we also need the ALL STARS VS THE REST in november.
Football administration is just as dynamic as the one on the field of play. We pick the best of yester-years and blend it with what is obtaining now. Sometimes the best of yester years may not even work in the current dispensation.
Best example is that most cups were sponsored by either State companies or mostly monopolistic multinational companies and now things have changed
Yes i agree still that we need a cup based on the FA Cup formula encompassing everyone and all get a fair chance of winning it.
On the all it’s a good show of confidence by supersport. I hope the packages have been considered to be respectable size
A big thank you to Super Sport for showing this confidence in the local game. A big thank you to Kalu and Faz for a job well done.
I thought this money was for the Super league clubs, but after reading the statement below from a Zesco official, I feel this explains why FAZ does not want to part with the running of the ZPL. I do not know how this money is shared but if clubs are getting peanuts, then this needs to be seriously addressed. I have no issues with MTN cause they mean well for Zambian football
From the Post
FAZ/MTN Super League clubs say they hope FAZ will allocate more money to them from the US$5 million deal that the association has signed with SuperSport.
FAZ on Thursday announced that it had signed a US$5million contract with SuperSport for the broadcast of Super League games from 2015 to 2020.
In an interview, Zesco United secretary Justin Mumba said the increment in the deal was good as long as most of the money would be channeled to the clubs.
He said most football clubs in Zambia were struggling with sponsorship hence getting more money from television rights would help improve the standards.
“We hope more money will be channeled to the clubs. We are waiting to see the benefits,” Mumba said.
He said the country was yet to reach levels where teams that pull crowds would get more from the television rights than other clubs.
And Nkana secretary Ken Mwansa said the increment in the amount of the contract meant that the teams would also start receiving more.
“It’s a good deal. The fact that the amount has increased, we hope the amount that clubs receive will increase too,” said Mwansa.
