FAZ ponder shaking up U17 technical bench

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) are pondering making changes to the Zambia U17 National team technical bench, the ZamFoot Crew understands.

The current Zambia U17 National team technical led by Ian Bakala will not likely take the Young Copper Bullets to the World Cup with a former U17 boss expected to bounce back the ZamFoot Crew has learned.

Zambia booked a ticket to the FIFA U-17 World Cup after they qualified to the quarterfinals of the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

As part of preparations, FAZ opted to enter the U17 side into the U20 tournament as part of the team’s continued high-level preparations for the FIFA U17 World Cup.

With Bakala away on club duty with Caps United in Zimbabwe, the team was led by Coach Aaron Kawangu, who took charge in his absence.

The ZamFoot Crew now understands that the FA is looking at changing the technical bench with a number of names floated already despite the current technical bench having qualified the team to the tournament.

On the women’s side, at least one change is expected but the rest of the team will likely to be intact ahead of their World Cup outing in Morocco in October.

The 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup will be the 20th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the annual international men’s youth football tournament contested by the under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA.

It will be held in Qatar from 3–27 November and will be the first of the five consecutive U-17 World Cups held in Qatar, preceding the 2026, 2027, 2028 and the 2029 tournaments.

Zambia were drawn in group H alongside Brazil, Honduras and Indonesia. The COSAFA giants will open their campaign against Indonesia on Tuesday, November 4th before meeting Honduras 3 days later.

The Young Chipolopolo Boys will conclude their group H matches with a tricky encounter against  four time winners, Brazil on Monday, November 10th.
