FAZ Integrity Test: DEC confirms active case against FAZ President Andrew Kamanga

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has confirmed that the case involving Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga and three others remains active, following inquiries from the press regarding its status.

In a statement issued today by DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba, the Commission clarified that the case, formally referred to as The People v Andrew Kamanga + 3, is still under investigation.

“As per procedure, the DEC submitted a docket of the case to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for guidance,” the statement reads. “Having reviewed the contents, the DPP provided the necessary guidance to DEC for further processing.”

The DEC has also disclosed that discussions have been initiated regarding a potential out-of-court settlement, but emphasized that this process is ongoing.

The Commission assured the public that final outcomes will be communicated once investigations are concluded.

Kamanga and three others were last year arrested by  DEC on charges related to money laundering.

He was accused of obtaining government funds under false pretenses and conspiracy to defraud.

The allegations centered on the disbursement of K341,902.00 from the government, purportedly as allowances for two individuals, Madalitso Kamanga and Jairous Siame, to attend the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The fraudulent activities were reported to have occurred between January 1 and February 15, 2024, coinciding with the AFCON tournament held in Ivory Coast.
