FAZ defends Nchanga proposal

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has defended the proposal by Nchanga Rangers to have the current FAZ constitution amended stating that it was baseless to suggest that the proposal was meant to to make a ‘FAZ life president’.

This is according to a media release by FAZ where the FA officially announced the 2014 AGM and stated that the proposal was on the agenda.

However, the proposal clearly indicates that the qualification for the presidency should be made more stringent to bar anyone who has not saved in the executive committee before.

“One of the proposals submitted by Nchanga Rangers stating that the qualification for one to stand as FAZ president, one must have served in the FAZ either as an executive committee member, treasurer or vice president does not call for changes to the current statutes in the constitution which state that elections shall be held every four years,” FAZ stated.

FULL STATEMENT

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to officially announce that the 2015 Annual General Meeting will take place at Mulungushi Rock of Authority in Kabwe on Saturday, March 28 at 10:00hrs.

The Minister of Youth and Sport Hon. Vincent Mwale M.P. will be the Guest of Honour.

All Councillors are advised to observe punctuality and to arrive at the venue of the meeting before the stated time.

PROPOSALS TO THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Proposals which have been submitted for the 2015 Annual General Meeting will be discussed and debated by Councillors under the rules and regulations of the FAZ following the laid down procedure.

One of the proposals submitted by Nchanga Rangers stating that the qualification for one to stand as FAZ president, one must have served in the FAZ either as an executive committee member, treasurer or vice president does not call for changes to the current statutes in the constitution which state that elections shall be held every four years.

The current FAZ Constitution does not limit how many times an office bearer shall stand for re-election.

The FAZ president, vice president, treasurer and executive committee members are not barred from seeking re-election under the current FAZ Constitution.

It is therefore baseless for some sections of the media and individuals alike to suggest that the proposal by Nchanga Rangers is meant to create the office of a life president at the FAZ.
