Equatorial Guinea has replaced Morocco as the new hosts of the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
The tournament, which runs from January 17 to February 8, was last hosted in the Central African country in 2012, when it acted as co-hosts along with Gabon.
The four cities selected for the finals are Malabo, Bata, Mongomo and Ebebiyin.
The draw for the finals will take place 3 December in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
It is not clear whether the new hosts will be able to play in the tournament. Equatorial Guinea were disqualified from the preliminaries for cheating.
African football governing body CAF recently stripped Morocco of its hosting rights after the Moroccan Football Federation requested a postponement of the tournament because of health concerns over the Ebola virus.
That postponement was denied and subsequently saw them disqualified from the tournament itself.
CAF approached several countries, including South Africa, after Morocco expressed its concerns about thousands of fans flocking to the country from nations struggling to contain the Ebola outbreak.
Government and the South African Football Association declined the request.
this is were we demolished Senegal and this is the tourney were we mortally inflected pain to a country that came boasting of being the Brazil of Africa after reaching quarter finals of 2010 worldcup
good one
Humm!! I wonder which African country —
Zambia’s territory, boys lets beat Mozambique we repeat the 2012 feat only this time we’r playing for M.C Sata
Thats were we defeated entire west africa. We shall repeat that next year.
I doubt the quality of stadiums and hospitality industry in EG.
Awe mwandi elo nomba twalalwalafye
We will win it again bar Cape Verde and Mozambique-kekekekeke
good, but i wonder how the media will seperate Equatorial guinea from the real ebola Guinea
this looks like our year yet again, just wait and see
This is our second home
CAF should put in strict measures to protect lives in EG. This pandemic seems to be un stoppable. Malians are now dying of ebola, next its Ghanaians. 37 Millitary hospital in Accra has recorded 2 cases of Ebola affecting soldiers who went for peace keeping mission in Mali. The 2 has been separated from other patients.
What has this got to do with Equatorial Guinean?
Anyway tests have proven this story false wai.
Tatalesa wafwa na ebola yayaya
Just a compromise.
Familiar territory, awe mwandi!
Yeah, Equitorial Guinea is going to want to play and are already disquilfied. Is Caf eating humble pie.
I heard Qatar wanted to host CAN 15 and it will have been wise to gave it to them because they have adequate facility and good stadiums compare to Eq.Guinea
Issa hayoutu z a danger to humanity. EG has recorded ebola cases n the deadly virus seems to thrive in equatorial climates. According to him football must prevail over human life. There z no nid to rush, the tournament can b postponed if it pauses a danger to human life, football z just for entertainment purposes after all. There z a world wide campaign urging pipo not to travel ebola affected regions n hayoutu wants to take 15 African countries to EG. What kind of reasoning z that? This tournament will have far reaching effects in as far as spreading the virus z concerned.
issah hayatou is a corrupt man i cant believe afcon 2023 was given to ebola infested guinea hayatou is mad why did he begrudge zambia
Go Zambia GO …. shalom
Zambians were here bad mouthing CAF that they favor West Africa when it comes to bidding to host events but here was a fine opportunity for Southern Africa to make a case and host this mundial but as usual they run with their tails in between their k legs.
we know that u r a ghanain hiding under south African. show yoself if u r man enuf.
Its only logical to replace morocco wt E guinea in afcon 15 n nothing changes
This decision is not sound. Simply based on the fact that they have decided to host the tournament in a country that was banned from the tournament to begin with. Its almost like they used that as leverage.
Also I am disappointed with Morocco based on observations made by KK11. How can you choose not to host AFCON, but host the club world cup which will probably attract more fans. Also considering that nations hard hit by ebola like Guinea have been playing their home games in Morocco this whole time. It doesn’t add up if you ask me. The whole thing is a huge mess, and awarding the tournament to a country that was banned just shows how desperate CAF is. Playing in Qatar would have been optimum for me.
Ebola tests on Military
officers negative
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has
confirmed that tests conducted on
two of its soldiers quarantined for
possible Ebola infection have proven
negative.
This was confirmed by the Acting
Public Relations Officer of the GAF,
Lieutenant Colonel Eric Aggrey
Quarshie.
The soldiers, prior to being
quarantined, were on a Peacekeeping
Mission in Mali.
guinea has ebola and not e. guinea. thus there is a big difference between the two countries. the only problem has to do with the problem morocco was afraid of. that is the difficulty with which CAF and E. guinea will combat the problem, becoz ebola is a very contagious virus. hence more strict measures will have to be implemented to prevent all personnel with the virus to get access to the sport vicinity(s). screening will definitely be a challenge. i just hope all will be well.
Equatorial guinea is a central african country and not west africa….Gabon is where the ghost helped zambia in 2012….It won’t happen in Equatorial guinea as thunder won’t strike twice
In as much as I wish Zambia not to qualify so that I can tease some guys here, another part of me wish to see the Chipolopolo in the mundial, only the best teams should make it to make it attractive for African football to get there.
Gird your loins and bring it on for the Black star has revenge on its mind
All the best against Mozambique.
