Wada, Quicksilver headline National Team Selection Exercise

The national team selection exercise has kicked off in the different provinces that will culminate in an All Stars versus The Rest clash.

FAZ has identified top coaches to lead the process among them former Chipolopolo trainers Wedson Nyirenda, Beston Chambeshi and Aggrey Chiyangi. Others coaching heavies include Dan Kabwe, Numba Mumamba and Mwenya Chipepo.

Nyirenda will lead the Lusaka pack that comprises candidates from Southern, Central, Eastern, Lusaka and Western while Chambeshi is expected to take charge of the Copperbelt, North Western, Luapula, Muchinga and Northern.

Other talent scouts will be roped in the exercise that will culminate into a grand finale to played on August 2.

FAZ general secretary Reuben Reuben Kamanga says the successful candidates from the two regions will face off in Lusaka before the final team is picked to be tested against the national team.

“From these we will select 30 players from the Copperbelt zone and 30 from the Lusaka batch. The selected players from the provincial teams will then play the select team by coach Chambeshi (the Copperbelt select with mostly players from the super league and national league) and the Lusaka select headed by Wedson Nyirenda will play the selected players from the Lusaka zone,” says Kamanga.

FAZ will run the selection in collaboration with the regional offices as part of the utilization of the decentralization set up.

The selection exercise is part of FAZ’s commitment to combing through the country to search for talent.

Kamanga says the selection will be replicated across various national teams as part of widening the pool of players eligible for national duty.
