DRC demolish Chipolopolo in Angola (Updated)

The Zambia national team on Friday afternoon suffered a morale sapping 3 – 0 loss to Congo DR in the four nations tournament currently underway in Angola.

Coach George Lwandamina named the same starting eleven that played against Mozambique in the CHAN qualifiers but there was no joy for the Chipolopolo as they were on the back foot from the start.

Zambia went into the break with a 2 – 0 deficit and the Congolese added a third in the second half.

Other teams participating in the tournament are COSAFA Champions Namibia and hosts Angola.

Zambianfootball.co.zm Angolan correspondent J Mukisi sent in this short report.

Zambia conceded the first goal from a free kick which saw tough tackling Dauti Msekwa receive a yellow card in the 32nd minute. The DRC took full advantage to head home from the resultant free kick… Jacob Banda could have done better.

The second goal did not take long to come after the Zesco United shot stopper, Banda again failed to deal with a long range shot from the Congolese to which they were the first to react slot home to extend the lead in the 35th minute.

Zambia came back more organized after break. Lwandamina effected some changes which saw Moses Phiri come in for Festus Mbewe amongst other changes, for a moment Zambia were looking good and taking control of the game but still failed to convert the chances created.

DRC then killed off the game with a third goal to give Chipolopolo no chance with 20 minutes to play.

The Angolan media had this to say about the embarrassing display by Lwandamina’s lads.

“We know the Chipolopolo very well. This is not team B, it should be team C. Or they have just sent their U20 team as they are preparing for under 23 tournament in Senegal.”

Hosts Angola also sailed through to the finals after beating Namibia 1 – 0.

  2. We are now used nama 3-0 defeats … #Sudan is goin to wallop us if we fail to find solutions to th problems with our team. @ ba Zamfoot , hw cm 1989? Wen th Congolese team defeated us at th Chan in 2009.

    • Toaster??? brother please!!! the guy is struggling to make it to as ZANACO number 2. Have you forgotten the Japan game already??? Kola or Allan Chibwe are better goalies than that Toaster.

  3. DRC continued from where Egypt ended. 1 for FAZ, 1 for technical bench and 1 for the players. Lwandamina is a fluke. Give him a contract as u say Pela manje.

  4. This is now gettin out of hand I dnt remember Janza ever recordin such an embarassin result it seems uncle chicken has now become too comfortable he now thinx he is an OSTRICH. Notti ifyo….

  5. Only a big f00l can say this lwandimina is a coach. He is a total dunderhead. I have never seen such a dull man in all my life. U cannot leave out seasoned professionals for useless boys like katema, chipeshi and mkandawire. Zambia may even be beaten by Sudan.

  6. Mind you, that was a makeshift DRC team trying out youngsters. When are we going to learn kanshi? Let me end here because ninga tukwane. Ndine muchristu

  7. We earlier spoke of the defenders like B.Mkandawire, Buchizya… that they still very raw. Wait for Sudan if you want to play novices like them at the back. Another 3-0m waiting

  8. Sudan is watching you zambians very closely you will be in a shock state when they wallop your team..another effortless wc qualifiers campaign for zambia

  9. WE SAID IT THAT THERE IS NOTHING TO CELEBRATE AFTER BEATING MOZAMBIQ, COZ MOZAMBIQ IS A WEAK TEAM, HV U SEEN THAT TEAM WHICH BEAT MOZAMBIQ HAS BEEN WALLOPED BY DRC TEAM B SQUAD.

  10. Lwandamina is as useless as his squad. First the goalkeeper Jacob Banda, Nchepeshi, Mkandawire, etc are all as useless as Lwandamina. In fact Sudan is going to wire Zambia 4-0. I can’t say more.

  11. Zambians today u r critising and insulting. let zambia win in sudan, we shall forget all this trash we r saying abt our team & heap praises on them.
like it is said, Zambiana easily forget

    • You must be a f00l to believe that this useless Lwandamina and his useless players will take us anywhere. Even if Zambia passes through Sudan, it will be a mere miracle.

    • The fact remains, Lwandamina is not national team coach material. Unfortunately he is the “best” Zambia has. Mediocrity will continue in Zambia. It’s the Zambian thing. Just look at the state of the nation. Everything rubbish.

    • Which players should replace them???? Chepeshi and Chirwa did not even player. Lwandamina is yet to lose a competitive game. If anyone is pathetic here, it is you!

  12. Hmmm..and u call your selves patriotic soccer fans…brazil loses 7 -1 in a world cup semi final but brazillians stil flock to the stadia to watch yhem…3-0 in a friendly that is being watched by sudan…where we r trying to stay injury free…so valled zambian soccer fans insult players and the coach….soccer fans indeed….

  13. This is the problem with local coaches coz it seems he’s now favouring Zesco and GBFC players.Jacob banda is past his prime and I just can’t understand why he’s still clinging on to Chepeshi and Mkandawire.I still feel Mbola and Kabaso would have been better options as full backs in the crucial games against Sudan though they are also error prone but at least they have experience.

  14. I hope Lwandima now understands that our defence is weak.In four games we have allowed seven goals and scored only four goals. What a waste of tax payers money. You are taking us backwards because we never used to loose with such big margins. In the last game against Namibia you should shake the team starting with yo number one goalkeer. We need to go to Sudan with moral, win the last game.

  15. Is this chicken telling us jacob Banda is the best goalie we have in Zambia at the moment! This idi0t decided to impress his player at Zesco at the expense of the nation! He continues to use chepeshi and Mkandawire even when the two midgets have failed to contribute anything to the team. The chap should be shown the door!

  16. @ F-15 manje u want us to rejoice wen th team is nt doing well???? Wen thy win against sudan us who ar criticizing thm will b th first to go n celebrate on th streets coz ninshi thy v been ka improvement. Othrwise takuli eko tuleya with such mediocre team selection.

  17. Hahaha! My Zambia…. how the mighty have fallen.
Didn’t watch the match therefore hard to tell what we learnt from the match. That said however, we can’t claim to have a credible team B. I thought this is the team that will represent us at CHAN in Rwanda? A lot has been said about the two inexperienced fullbacks. Nothing new there and I dare say Sudan will reap goals if we field a “stupid defense”. My concern at the moment is that these two boys at the back have become our scapegoat each time we post a loss. Our problems are deeper than those two players. I’d really want us to beat Sudan, but a draw wouldn’t be the worst result considering our team is nowhere near where it should be.

  18. Thanks to J.Mukisi for the report.

I have given my thoughts on the results. I did not watch the game can’t say much. But looks like the Coach has hit the ceiling in terms of taking the team forward.

  19. Congratulations to Zambian born Joseph Mwasile who played for Salford city fc a team owned by 5 members of uniteds class of 92 they knocked notts county out of the FA cup I believe he is the 1st Zambian to play in the FA cup

  20. Ba Zimandola good observation. It is better that way than loosing Sudan game, coz in friendlies that is where we build a team, try out players, system of play and other aspects.

  23. An attacking midfielder with just 1 assist and no goal in 13 appearances is not good enough. Which is even salford? where are they in the english league? championship or league 1 or league 2?

  24. Chicken has not lost any competitive game, are the lost games considered during fifa rankings? certainly yes! so y shud we wait 4 a competitive game to win & not startin with friendlies?Almost all Players George has cod once passed via his hands @ club level, makin it easier 4 him to position them.I believ none is condemnin coach, players nor FAZ but want positive results.Ba coach pliz change the fullbacks .

  25. Team C hahaha!Even the Angolans can recognise that we have better players (in our local league) than those two full backs and scoundrous Zesco Utd goalkeeper. I saw the goals he let in against Nkana. The guy is a FLOP!

  26. The way Chipolopolo is hyped, we would be world champions like five times. People have forgotten that just less than a month ago DRC was hammering Nigeria 3 – 0 and that they are Ex-Chan champions. 4/5 years ago, the demolished us in the semifinals on their way to the finals beating Ghana to win the inaugural CHAN TROPHY

  27. If BaGeorge continues with the “taka taka”system of play then chipolopolo are likely to be wired in Khartoum. We need versatile players in all departments.

  28. Zambia has just been put in it’s place. That’s the appropriate place for Zambia following it’s form, depth as well as fifa rankings. It’s not a team which most bloggers claim to be .For once please accept reality!
