Derby Day: The Kitwe derby, A match for the fans and pride

It’s the day everyone who loves has even little knowledge about Zambian football was waiting for as the Kopala derby comes alive.

The fans are excited, anxious and looking foward to see who carries the day in this mammoth fixture on the Zambian football calendar.

The city of Kitwe is painted Red and yellow,as the most watched , long awaited derby day is here, Zambia’s only Continental Cup winners Power Dynamos host their bitter rivals Nkana at Arthur Davies Stadium.

A game for pride, a game for the fans is what this match is about and most definitely what it is known for.

This is a clash where the two rivals , put in their all, not for points,not necessarily for their position on table but most definitely for the bragging rights.

‌The last time the two teams met at Nkana ‘Pa Chilata’ Stadium it was the record 13 time Champions, Nkana who beat Aba yellow by 2 goals to nil with an own goal coming from Power Dynamos defender Paul Banda in the 5th minute before Gilroy Chimwemwe’s goal in the 80th minute sealed the win for Nkana.

Power Dynamos fans who will go to the stadium with so much confidence with the hope that their talented youngsters in Joshua ‘Budo’ Mutale, Fred ‘Kante’ Mulambia, Paul Banda will come to the party today having been unsuccessful in the reverse fixture.

But are Mwenya Chipepo’s men ready to give the fans what they truly deserve? This is a question that will be answered at the end of the 90 minutes at Arthur Davies Stadium.

All that the fans are hoping for is that the team know what they are playing for.

Power Dynamos will be going in this derby with the heart of winning it at home and taking back what was lost on the 12th of December 2021, pride and bragging rights to the City of Kitwe.

On the other hand Aba Red will want to win it home and away to complete a double over their rivals.

Both teams have been inconsistent this season,with Power Dynamos only managing to record one win in their last 5 matches while Nkana managed to get 2 wins in the same period.

The host is currently standing in the 6th position with 5 points behind the visiting side who are in the 4th position with 49 points.
