ZESCO Ndola Girls started their CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers with a comfortable win beating Namibia side Beauties FC 3-0.
Goals from Avell Chitundu, Penelope Mulubwa and Eneless Phiri were enough for the Zambian Champions to secure a comfortable win.
Copper Queens goalkeeper Hazel Nali returned to competitive football for the first time in two years after recovering from an ACL injury and started between the sticks.
New acquisitions, Jackline Chomba started at the heart of defense alongside Vast Phiri.
Penelope Mulubwa lead the attack alongside Thandiwe Ndhlovu and Enelesi ‘Mayuka’ Phiri.
ZESCO took the lead in the 21st minute after Avell Chitundu was found unmarked inside the area and she made no mistake dispatching it with ease.
ZESCO were awarded an opportunity to double the lead after Penelope Mulubwa was brought down in the box, the referee pointed to the spot and the 2024/2025 Eden University Women’s Super League player of the season stepped up to make it 2-0.
ZESCO made it 3-0 just before halftime as Mulubwa was again fouled in the box, this time Enelesi Phiri stepped up and dispatched a brilliant penalty into the roof of the net increasing the advantage.
The match went to the break with ZESCO Ndola Girls leading by a comfortable 3-0 scoreline.
In the second half, Coach William Zulu withdrew Enelesi Phiri, Marjory Mulenga, Dorothy Daka to rest them.
Beauties FC came back looking to change the shape of the game and made a few chances but they failed to find the back of the net. ZESCO held on to win the match and collect maximum points.
Zegalicious Girls will now shift their attention to the mammoth clash against Mamelodi Sundowns set for Sunday.
