Avram Grant to name squad next week for Morocco World Cup qualifier

Chipolopolo boss Avram Grant is set to name the Chipolopolo provisional squad for next months’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Morocco.

Patson Daka is expected to return to the set up after missing the Chipolopolo’s last seven games due to injury.

The Leicester City forward is expected to headline the squad alongside US Lecce wing wizard Lameck Banda.

It’s not clear whether Fashion Sakala who has been out of favor with the Israeli gaffer will make the squad but this is likely the game that can see the U20 AFCON winner make his sensational long awaited comeback.

Grant is expected to blend foreign based players with the locally based players.

Players like Kabaso Chongo, Dominic Chanda, Owen Tembo and Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba are expected to make the cut.

Youngsters Joseph Liteta, Gift Siame, David Hamansenya and Happy Nsiku who was impressive at the disastrous African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament could also be given call ups.

Klings Kangwa who is Zambia’s best player at the moment is also expected to also be part of the squad.

Zambia will host Morocco at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Monday ,September 8th.

The Chipolopolo Boys are on six points after winning against Congo Brazzaville and getting free points off the same opponent after they were temporarily banned by FIFA because of third-party interference in the affairs of the country’s football association (Fecofoot).

Meanwhile the Atlas Lions of Morocco lead the group with 15 points after five wins from their first five games.
