Copper Queens Train At Nelson Mandela Stadium

By FAZ Media

The Copper Queens held their first training session in Algeria on Thursday as preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) continued.

Head coach Nora Häuptle led the session at the Nelson Mandela Stadium training grounds, taking the players through a series of drills after the team’s arrival in Algiers on Wednesday afternoon.

The Copper Queens continued building towards their two international friendly matches against Algeria before travelling to Morocco for the WAFCON finals.

The first friendly will be played on Sunday July 19, with the second scheduled for July 22nd. The two teams will then jet off to Morocco on the same chartered flight.

At WAFCON, the Copper Queens have been drawn in Group C alongside defending champions Nigeria, regional rivals Malawi and Egypt.

The tournament will run from 26 July to 16 August in Morocco and will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with four automatic qualification places available for African teams.
