Copper Queens out to book COSAFA Women’s Championship final slot

The Zambia Women’s National Team will be looking to book their place in the final of the ongoing COSAFA Women’s Championship when they square off with Tanzania on Friday afternoon.

The Copper Queens have only reached the final once, 2019 when they lost to South Africa, 1-0.

Bruce Mwape’s lasses finalised their preparations for  Friday’s 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship semi-final clash against guest nation Tanzania with an intense training session on Thursday afternoon.

The Copper Queens final session was held at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha ahead of tomorrow’s match.

Both Zambia and Tanzania are unbeaten with the Copper Queens recording a 100% winning rate from Group B amassing 9 points, scoring 11 goals plus a clean sheet in three games while the Twiga Stars topped Group C with 7 points scoring 6 goals and conceding just once.

The Copper Queens and Twiga Stars will revive their rivalry having met last year at the same stage of the competition with Tanzania winning 3-2 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw with Lushomo Mweemba scoring an own goal while Grace Chanda found the back of the net for Zambia.

Barbra Banda who is the current top goalscorer with eight goals is expected to lead the Copper Queens as she aims to continue with her extraordinary performance and boost her case for top goalscorer and player of the tournament awards.

Bands is expected to be joined by Ochumba Oseke Lubanji in attack with Misozi Zulu and Xiomara Mapepa on the wings.

Catherine Musonda is expected to return between the sticks with Margaret Belemu, Martha Tembo, Agness Musesa and Lushomo Mweemba making up the back four.

Ireen Lungu, the female Computer and the amazing Evarine Susan Katongo are expected to partner in midfield.

The winners of the match will go on to play either hosts South Africa or Namibia in the final on Sunday 11 September.

Kick-off will be at 12h00 and the repeat of the 2021 semi-final fixture will be live on SuperSport, GOtv and will be streamed live on Cosafa.tv and FIFA+.
