The Zambia Women’s National Team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Colombia in the early hours of Sunday.
Coach Bruce Mwape’s lasses had their first of two matches in the early hours of Sunday just hours after arriving barely hours before.
The hosts were the first to threaten as they settled early on. The early pressure paid off as they took the lead in the sixth minute through Mayra Ramirez who netted from close range after a long range shot hit the crossbar and the defense failed to clear.
Zambia started pushing for an equaliser with Grace Chanda, Rachel Kundananji and Rachel Nachula leading the chase.
The Queens came close in the 15th minute with Luz Catherine Tapia Ramirez making back to back saves from Ireen Lungu and Grace Chanda in the process injuring herself.
Tapia Ramirez was later withdrawn after failing to continue, in her place Catalina Perez came in.
On the opposite end, Hazel Nali made some fine saves to keep the match at 1-0.
In the second half Kundananji who was a big tormenter of the Power Puff Girls had a chance to level matters but her effort was deflected wide after she was set up by Grace Chanda.
Prisca Chilufya brought in some more energy after replacing Ochumba Oseke Lubanji but the Copper Queens’ could not find a way back as it ended 1-0 in favor of Colombia.
The next match between the two sides will be on Tuesday, 15 November at 19:30 local time (02:30 Zambian time).
