The Zambia National Women’s Soccer Team played to a worst possible start to the Africa Women’s Championship as they slipped to a 2 – 0 loss at the hands of the hosts Namibia.
The Zambian lasses who went into the tournament bubbling with confidence to pull up a surprise were quickly deflated after they conceded a goal in the fourth minute from a Rita Williams effort.
The Zambians continued to work hard with captain Mubange Lupopo creating some space with her runs on the flank throughout the game
The best chance of the Zambians came in the 36th minute and danger-woman Kabange Mupopo took on her markers, beating them on the flanks before squaring for Hellen Mubanga whose final touch came off the cross bar.
However, the Brave Gladiators punished the Zambians further when they scored from a free kick in the 21st minute.
Zambia continued to search for an elusive goal through the second half as they tightened the back but efforts from Susan Banda, Mary Mwakapila and Helen Mubanga were saved by Lydia Exias who had a brilliant game in the Namibia goal.
The Zambians will take heart from their second half display as they look ahead to the next game against Nigeria on Tuesday.

We never had such dis-respective bloggers on the “old” Zamfoot.
Nefyanakashi fyonse we are the worst. We are doomed.
To b honest i can’t blame janza. I blame kalu, he z corrupt and big headed. He does nt want to hire a good coach.
How do you expect great results when there is no well recognised and financially supported women’s football league in Zambia. In my humble opinion, just qualifying for the women’s Africa cup of nation is an achievement and we should use this as a learning experience.
That said,We can still hold our own when we face the big gun in women’s football namely,Nigeria on tuesday if we remain positive and optimistic.
