Chelsea starlet Charly Musonda has agreed a move on loan to Real Betis for the remainder of the 2015-16 campaign with the option to extend the deal, according to the international business times. The future of the 19-year-old who has Belgian who has Zambian parents at Stamford Bridge has been under scrutiny amid reports claiming Manchester United and Manchester City are interested in securing his services.
Betis are expected to be his next club after Spanish publication AS reported the clubs have agreed a deal for the midfielder to play at the La Liga side until the end of this term, with an option to extend his spell by a further season.
The Sevilla-based outfit are 14th in La Liga after securing promotion to the first division last season. They are still four points above the relegation spots but recently parted ways with former West Bromwich Albion manager Pepe Mel following a number of negative results.
Musonda moved to Chelsea from Anderlecht in the summer of 2012 along his older brothers Tika and Lamisha. He has since progressed through the youth ranks as one of the biggest talents to emerge from the academy, with him part of the club’s Uefa Youth League and FA Youth Cup successes last season.
But having since failed to make his debut with the first-team, the Daily Mirror reported in December 2015 that United and City were ready to take advantage of the player’s frustration.
And the attacking midfielder’s father, Charly Musonda Snr, slammed Chelsea a month earlier over the club’s reluctance to give him a chance, when Jose Mourinho was still in charge.
“He should definitely leave,” Musonda Snr was quoted as saying by Belgian website Voetbal Krant. “Monaco were interested a while ago, and that was not the only team. He should be able to play in the first team, to develop further in that way.”
The player confirmed in December 2015 (with a message on Instagram that was later deleted) that he was ready to leave the west London club on loan, although he insisted it was going to be just a further step to develop his talent in order to become “one of the very best one day at Chelsea”.

Speaking of Foreign prospects. Another Zambian born player Robert Earnshaw has retired. I’m sure some bloggers will remember him because people wanted him to play for Zambia, but he instead chose to play for Wales.
Another such prospect was Jeff Whitley who used to play for Manchester City (Not this galactic Manchester City, but the old one that used to lose to teams like Leeds).
Can I ask. What has happened to the following EPL fans from back in the 1990’s.
– Ba Leeds Utd fans
– Ba Newcastle fans
Also Pompey (Portsmouth), Mbesuma’s former club in the EPL?
Yaba, forgot about those. I’m glad we don’t have anyone in EPL anymore. Don’t know how many Southampton games I watched, just waiting for Mayuka to come on
Portsmouth is somewhere in Div 2. Uless that is another club.
Robert Earnshaw, how can you choose wales over Zambia. He would have had a couple of Afcon appearances and medals on his cv. maybe he could have helped take us to world cup. sad
@positive. I was a staunch leeds united fun. I grew up cheering nkana and leeds. still a nkana for life, but along the way I lost track of leeds as they went into the oblivion of championship football, now an arsenal fun.
Huh! so Stumpy you are a muselela kwakaba? That’s okey to jump band wagons though. I hear you.
Stumpy. I don’t blame you. I remember when Leeds Utd bought a little known Frenchman by the name of Eric Cantona and won the league. Then Cantona left for Man U and then things started to fall apart later. The club almost went bankrupt at some point. That’s why I don’t complain about my Liverpool. Ifwe ni for life mudala
When corrupt and jealousy Kalu is out of FAZ, then we stand a better chance of having this kid represent Zambia at senior level, until then lets continue salivating and hearing this good news on the progress of Charly from afar. I really wish Kalu had children that were boys ot just girls that he has, and maybe, just maybe they would have been like the Ayews and as such Kalu would not have been a jealous freak that he is on the Musonda kids. Just saying.
Its very difficult to see this kid to for zambia because of the current FAZ: 1. who pick players for National duty who don’t play regularly for there teams. 2. Who hate players. eg Chisamba Lungu etc because He comes out or advice them. 3. Who don’t select players on merit but those who are royal to the president. 4. Who hire a high qualified coach to be an assistance to unqualified.
The answer is….. cluesless calculated King Kalu.
I doubt if he will ever play 4 Zambia maybe his average elder brothers will. Same with the pogba bros the talented one (Paul) plays 4 france and his average elder bros (mathias & florentin) 4 Guinea.#just sayin.
People should stop talking about these Charles Musonda boys. Zamfoot should also stop reporting about them. They are NOT Zambians. Both their parents have been categorical about this issue. They have come out on a number of occasions to say that they are not Zambians and will probably not play for Zambia! They were not born in Zambia! They are Belgium nationals and have played for the Belgium under 19 team before. They don’t know anything about Zambia or it’s culture. The sooner people accept that, the batter!!!
@Key Hammer. I believe that if Charly Jr becomes successful, many Zambian youths will identify with him and be encouraged to emulate his example. I can imagine any boy in Chipata, Kasama, Sesheke…hearing that a Musonda has been named Europe’s best player, to be so motivated to pursue his football dream with even more passion and determination.
The bottom line is that the boy is NOT a Zambian and will NEVER play for Zambia. He was born in Belgium and has grown up there.
so wat is so special abt this boy if i may ask? Lets us talk abt mayuka, katongo, salulani, charles zulu, larry, moses phiri o these r zambian
Good move for him. He needs exposure. Spanish football will be good. He is still very young. The last thing he needs is too much pressure. I will wait until he is 24 years to say he is going to be a mega star. He is still too young to say that. We have seen it with many young international talents..
This issue is not only to Zambia.Ghana has a lot of such in Europe but our law allows dual citizenship. We are trying to bring inaki Williams and Jung. These are highly rated players who play week in week out
This issue is not peculiar to Zambia.Ghana has a lot of such in Europe but our law allows dual citizenship. We are trying to bring inaki Williams and Jung. These are highly rated players who play week in week out.We are just hoping they play for us instead of Spain and Germany
charly musonda must play for zambia to motivate others he is a zambian no matter what where in the world can you find musonda apart from zambia
There’s no reason to be angry at our prodigal son. Like Kampinda rightfully said, this young man is an inspiration to young Zambian players and there is still a chance that Charly or maybe Lamisha can play for Zambia.
As good as C Musonda was the sense is that is that he never gave Zambia his all Like Kalushya or like current cap Chris Katongo. He seemed to always get injured and disappear. We badly needed him for the crucial WC 1994 qualifier in Morocco and who knows if he was around what would have happened. All we needed was a draw if I’m not mistaken and I’ve never felt happy about that.
It appears the kids will never play for Zambia and that is their choice.
We seem to have got the Charley Musonda issue all wrong, 2 reasons here based on the comment by SKG11.
First Charley, who I knew when he was a kid in Mufulira played against Morocco in the 1994 WC qualifier and was kicked in the face when he dove for a header, a penalty which Diramba Ignored. The Moroccan defender even broke his tooth.
Second, it was only after he went to Circle Brugges and later Anderlecht that Medical experts realised that this wonder boy had one leg shorter than the other and this used to cause him a lot of discomfort and thigh injuries. They eventually started designing him special boots one longer that the other.
I had the fortune of being in Finland in 1990-1992 and used to subscribe to the Zambia Daily Mail and Times of Zambia Newspapers, in those days of no DSTV and no Internet. We depended on EURO SPORTS to watch European games. You would be watching Charles in the Physio being treated for a serious injury with ECG like wires on his thigh, and his Club Anderlecht would be mourning the great loss, while in Zambia Newspapers would be reporting that Charles Musonda was expected and had confirmed to arrive on Wednesday to beef the Zambia squad for a weekend game. You could clearly see Zambian newspapers whipping people’s emotions either intentionally or out of ignorance (lack of information) while the poor lad was busy nursing an injury.
Fans ended up hating him for being unpatriotic and even started sabotaging his investments in Zambia. This is what I still see emerging in most people’s attitude towards him. We all needed to get to the bottom of his issue.
My man in Finland from 1990 to 92. Do you recall the soccer reports about Miti and Andrew Tembo that I used to send to the Zambia Daily Mail and were published every Monday. You have taken me aback
Zambians are some of the most ignorant people on earth. I am also a Zambian.
1. Linking Kalu to Musonda to play for Zambia. What has Kalu got to with this?
2. Why not respect their decision to play for Belgium?
3. How many players of DRC origin play for Belgium. Hundreds. Lukaku, Kompany and many others. But are Zambians making an issue out of this?
4. Most European born boys only opt for African teams, when they have no chance of playing for European countries.
5.Charles Musonda and his children are not enemies of Zambia, they are free to choose as they wish.
Chamz, agree with you on points 2 thru 5, but lets not pretend that there wasn’t tension between Kalu and Charles Musonda that went beyond their playing days and has led to this whole business of Charles Musonda’s sons not playing for Zambia.
I recall years ago when people were calling for Charles Musonda’s sons to be evaluated for the U20 or U17 teams and it seemed abena Kalu were reluctant to follow through. I have also heard that Charles Musonda does not want his children affiliated with Kalu. Anyway, these are all hearsay, so I may just be perpetuating made up stories.
I also don’t see how Zambia can be calling 2 meter tall keeper who trains with an amateur side, but not try and reach out to young players playing at Chelsea who have Zambian blood. Have you asked yourself about that?
With or without the Musondas Zambian football will still be there. I don’t understand Why people want these boys so much, even when they were to come it wont be a guarantee that every game we play we will win or we will win the world cup. Lets appreciate what we have.
Wow aren’t we Zambians big headed sometimes and for what???
1. We don’t have a single player making waves anywhere in the world not even in Africa
2. We don’t have a national team that can cause a scare to any team anymore
3. We don’t have facilities
4. We don’t have an FA that looks like it will take us anywhere, I mean they can’t even get a coach Pete’s sake
5. Since the 60’s all we have to show is one Afcon
6. Never qualified for the world cup
7. Our club football is in the pits for lack of a better word
And yet with almost everything football stacked against us we chose to belittle the one current bright spark, Charly Musonda Jr
Charly Snr never said his boys will never play for Zambia
Now a blogger even wants to add more lies by saying Charly Snr’s wife also said something that is a load of bull crap.
We have Charly Musonda to brag about. Now with Dual Citizenship, Faz must move fast
Are our heads so thick, so thick that we have learned nothing from teams that have roped more success than us?
South Africa have been to three world cups have an Afcon, have players doing major things in Europe and all this draws from the fact that they saw benefit in approaching players with even just a drop of South African blood to come and play for their national team.
Cape Verde same thing, in a short time have established themselves as a power house, how you may ask, they also approached and made a conscience decision to rope in players from Europe who have the tinniest drop of Cape Verde blood. Now us Zambians want to talk about boys who can’t even tick in SA or Congo and say let’s forget about boy whose signature is being chase by teams like Manu.
I honestly thought many bloggers will be excited that we finally have dual citizenship so we can now approach these players and chuff them into playing for the national team but alas it seems I was wrong. It seems some of us are so inclined to embracing mediocrity that the smell of success is offensive.
Jst thinking, if kalu n Charles were frds,y don’t kalu call the Frd even to help in ideas on Zambian football.lucky siska was cod…..bt its like thy don’t even talk to each other…..is there something we don’t kn
@Big Steve. Awe mwatu uza. Ine I was just saying what I heard, and why bloggers would think Lusha’s presence kept Charles Musonda’s children playing.
I agree though. Angola also did the same thing right before they qualified to the World Cup. Zambia should really think about pursuing this, especially with dual citizenship. Its sad that we never leverage others success stories, but instead choose to recreate everything.

thank you Kasama Boy for that info
This is the link were Charles Musonda’s wife being catergorical. You are an Economic Refugee in a foreign country and you think you know everything!!!!! I can’t come here and tell lies.
http://lusakavoice.com/2015/05/20/my-kidsll-never-play-for-zambia%E2%80%A2charles-musondas-wife/
These boys will NEVER play for Zambia; they have already played for Belgium. Some people here should get that in their THICK HEADS!!!!
In the article she is alluding to the non availability of dual citizenship which is now a non issue….duhhhh!!!!
And by the way the rule only applies if you have played for the senior national team of a country after that you cant switch. the Musonda boys have not played for the Belgium National team only the junior ranks just like many African players who eventually went on to play for their African national teams. Understand the facts then you wont get it twisted like that.
And don’t ever make reference to the crap you perceive me to be otherwise I will state facts about who and what you really are and that will just break the hearts of your whole family, ancestors included.
Chief let’s not be getting too emotional here, we are here to talk about football and nothing else. My argument here is that the boys might never play for Zambia. I don’t see that happening. You don’t know me have no right what so ever threaten or talk about people you don’t know. pwaaHHH
Good thing you have chosen to take a level headed approach. you jumped on me with the bullsh-t statement “You are an Economic Refugee in a foreign country and you think you know everything!!!!!” I was simply killing fire with fire. Sometimes its good to show cats that they are not the only animals with claws.
At the end of the day; the beautiful game wins. We are here because we love Zambian football and our beloved our Chipolopolo.
You are right, I remember one Ghanian player that player for England U21 but eventually endedup playing for the Black Stars.
Leave these boys i agree with chamz nd others in 2012 i was in mufulira charly junir was there to met relatives they know everything there mother nd father ve tot them to play for belgium its there rits we ve achieved with our own so let it be think of it at ninteen the boy cant tik, eg luk at jaunazaj hi beljiun he has proved the two brothers mapulaanga we ve talent forget about them lets suport those who wants to be zambians
While on the topic, FAZ should locate any professional footballers in Europe and America that have Zambian Blood in them. What happened to that lad playing his trade in Italy,he was Goal keeper if I’m not mistaken?
There is also that boy from the under20 who went to Tottenham Hot Spars. He was 18 then. What has happened to him?
A brown player playing for a European team to me, looks strange. If you are brown then you belong to Africa. That is that no 2 questions about this
