THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) US$10,000 (about K120,000) for crowd trouble during two international matches.
The CAF disciplinary board meted out the punishments during a meeting on September 20 this year.
The continental soccer board handed FAZ US$5,000 (about K60,000) fine for the fans’ pitch invasion at the end of the 2016 Rwanda African Nations Championship first round return leg against Namibia in Lusaka on July 4.
Zambia beat Namibia 2-1 in regulation time at Lusaka’s Nkoloma Stadium to tie 3-3 on aggregate but went on to win 6-5 on penalties.
CAF have also imposed a similar fine on FAZ for throwing of objects on the pitch when the under-23 national team faced their Ivory Coast counterparts in the Senegal African Under-23 Championship qualifier at the same venue on August 1.
The game ended 0-0 on aggregate but Zambia pulled through to the final hurdle of the Olympic Games football tournament on lotteries.

Do we have funds to pay the fine?
The money is there in Kwacha, but not dollar, naikosa.
It’s high time Zambians football fans should learn to be behaving.
FAZ SHOULD BE PROACTIVE SOMETIMES, WHY TAKE SUCH MATCHES TO A STADIUM WHICH HAS THE PITCH CLOSER TO TERRACES? SOME OF THE FANS WHO WHERE THERE DURING THOSE MATCHES WHERE SEASONAL FANS, DRUNK AND SOME WHERE SMOKING ICHAMBA RIGHT THERE AND FAZ EXPECT SUCH FANS TO BEHAVE. I WAS THERE AND I WAS EMBARRASSED AND SOME EVEN STARTED HARASSING NAMIBIANS AND ORDERED THEM TO STOP FLY THEIR FLAG. UNTIL I COMMITTED A CRIME BY IMPERSONATING TO BE AN OFFICER. ITS SHAME TO FAZ AND TO SOME FANS. WHAT SHOULD FAZ DO IS TO HIKE THE PRIZES FOR WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS AND MAKE IT PUBLIC SO THAT WHO WOULD BE OFFENDERS WILL BE ARRESTED AND HANDLED TO THE POLICE BY THE AFFECTED FANS LIKE ME. A FEEL FOR FAZ.
FAZ Should appeal, how can it be pitch invasion when this looks like it was after the game had ended. Pitch invasion ni lilya ama fans babutuka ‘Chintako” mu pitch, while the game is in progress.
FAZ Can win this appeal on a technicality. Anyway ba FAZz I am not a legal expert so don’t follow me I am lost too.
During or after the match it doesn’t matter – it is still pitch invasion.
You’d think this kind of behavior where fans rush onto to pitch belonged to the 70s and early 80s! Well done CAF. Fans should know that modern football has got strict rules attached unlike 30 years ago. Rather embarrassing to say the least.
In the 70s and 80s we’d hammer Namibia 8-1 and would be too elated to invade a pitch bwaana-try next number-kekekekekeke
Hahaha! Uncle Bobs may be I should say this behavior was common during school soccer matches.
That sounds better.
Move the games to Levi Mwanawasa if pipo in Lusaka are misbehaving
This behavior should not be tolerated well done CAF.
Things like like pitch invasion can be easily avoided if we have enough Police and security personnel at the stadium. Then a quarter of this money we paying now could have been used to buy cold drinks and burgers for the police to feast on at the stadium.
IT HAPPENS IN FOOTBALL, IT IS NOT ONLY ZAMBIA WHO HAS GON THROUGH IN A SUCH SITUATION, BUT LET US CONTROL OUR TEMPER, ITS A SAD NEWS. WISH A CHANGE IN THE NEXT GAMES.
SWITCHING THE GAME FRM LUSAKA TO NDOLA THAT IS NOT A SOLUTION WE STILL NEED GAMES IN LUSAKA REMEMBER LUSAKA IS A CAPTAL CITY, BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO CHANGE OUR BEHAVIOUR.
