Bidvest Wits release Chris Katongo

Bidvest Wits have parted ways with Zambian striker and former Chipolopolo captain Christopher Katongo.

Katongo spent only one season with Wits after joining the club from Golden Arrows last season.

According to kickoff, Wits CEO Jose Ferreira confirmed that the former Chipolopolo striker is leaving the club at the end of June.

The 32-year-old scored two goals in eight League starts and nine substitute appearances for Gavin Hunt’s side this season

  1. This does not take anything from Chris. He is a legend.Iff ZAMBIA had the likes of Katongo, the nation would be flying victory colours constantly. The current crop of players are in no comparable terms to Chris. Wishing him every best opportunity on his next endeavour.
Chris should be considering taking up some coaching program as l personally believe he would excel at it. Any way, dear Chris, please follow your conscience & just do what’s best for “this pillar” in Zambian football.

  2. You did extremely well for both country and clubs you played for,not these ,not all, current crop of players Janza is unearthing, stupid useless players, wish you all the best former skip.

  3. Ghana do not pretend you are not concerned about COSAFA.You are jst shy to talk about it for embarrassment. And Madagascar is worse than Namibia.U r beaten,u r beaten, unless you say that team u sent is Ghana. As far as we are concernd,it is a Ghana senior team.

  4. True Zambian legend. Achieved things no other Zambian captain an player has ever achieved in the history of Zambian football.

    1. First captain to captain us to an Afcon win
    2. First ever Zambian footballer to win BBC African footballer of the year.

We salute you captain for a job well done far beyond expectation.

My two cents captain, COSMOS play in the promotional play offs today against black leopards. Should they win todays game they will have one foot in the door to the PSL. Should Cosmos get promoted back into the PSL, have a drink with Jomo and play your last season or two for them as a loyalty send off. This is the team that groomed you into a footballing star.

  5. Ghanaian media including Ghana soccernet used to talk about the team travelling for COSAFA tournament before their team left for SA, but am wondering the sudden silence as if their NATIONAL TEAM has not played any game!

    • ANITA, GHANA PLAYED AND LOST..SOME GHANAIANS HAVE HEADICKs IN THAT LOST..NOW, FOOTBAL IS KNOWN BY ALL COUNTRIES..NAMIBIA COULDNT HAVE SCORED THE CHIPOS , BUT THE TOOK ZAMBIA OUT.

ANYWAY, !!- A BALL IS ROUND -!! -> IT GOES EVERYWHERE WHEN ITS PLAYED.

  6. @Scotch & Anita: (paradox ignored): While talking about a legend of Katongo’s pedigree, you are rather interested in Madagascar whipping Ghana. Where are your priorities? Madagascar beating Ghana at Cosafa is more important to you than the captain, the only captain who brought some honour to Zambian football. When will such a captain ever be in the headlines of Zambian soccer? Not in the near future. This is what you all should be brainstorming about. Let us set our priorities right. This is a cancer eating all African governments. We tend to focus on immaterial & irrelevant matters while leaving aside the major source of our problems. A word to the wise is enough.

  7. I respect Xris but i still stand by what i said that not taking these guys to Afcon 2015 wasn’t a mistake as they’d not have made any difference seeing where most of them are now heading. That said, we cant take away what they achieved in 2012
