Zambian forward Clifford Mulenga will leave Ajax Cape Town upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June after struggling to make an impact.
Mulenga joined Ajax in August last year on a season-long deal but hasn’t found as much joy as he would have liked in the Mother City.
The 27-year-old has started just a single game – the opening League fixture against AmaZulu last August – and made a further nine substitute appearances, prompting the Urban Warriors to make a decision not to retain him further than June.
“We are not renewing Clifford’s contract when it expires at the end of the season,” says Ari Efstathiou, the Ajax CEO.
“We were hoping that he would play more than he has done this season so we are not taking the option to extend.
“Actually, the average age of our squad is going to drop down next season with the departure of some players,” he adds.
Mulenga has grown to be a nomad of note with Ajax the eighth club he has played for since arriving in South Africa just over a decade ago.
