Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club have confirmed that goalkeeper Aisha Gama is in stable condition after she was rushed to hospital during their Women’s Super League fixture against Red Arrows Women.
Gama started the match and played through until the 80th minute when she suddenly fell on the pitch, prompting immediate concern from players, officials and supporters.
Medical personnel were swiftly called onto the field, where team doctors attended to the shot-stopper. According to the club, she was successfully resuscitated before being rushed to hospital for further medical attention.
The goalkeeper was admitted for observation but was later discharged at around 18:00 hours after responding well to treatment.
In a statement released on behalf of the club secretary, Kelvin Bwalya Mwansa, Green Buffaloes Women confirmed that the player is now stable and undergoing further medical examinations at Maina Soko Medical Center as a precautionary measure.
“The player is now fine and is undergoing further examinations at Maina Soko. The club would like to thank the football family for the strengthening messages,” read part of the statement.
The incident has inevitably drawn fresh concern within the football community, coming just weeks after the tragic death of 15-year-old goalkeeper Annita Chomba, who collapsed and died during a Women’s National League match in Kabwe last month. While the two cases are unrelated, they have heightened calls for enhanced medical readiness and player welfare protocols across women’s football.
Green Buffaloes Women have assured supporters that they will continue to closely monitor Gama’s condition and provide updates where necessary, with the club emphasizing that the health and safety of players remains its utmost priority.
