AFCON Qtr Finals: Ghana v Guinea / Algeria v Ivory Coast

The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations semi finals list will be completed today with two games being played in the quarter finals which will see Ghana take on Guinea in the early kick off while Herve Renard’s Ivory Coast are up against Algeria.

Ghana who are perennial semi finalists look favorites to progress ahead of Guinea while the contest between Ivory Coast and Algeria looks too close to call.

  1. Why watch this boring AFCON when its super bowl sunday and I got my 13lb turkey already marinated and ready for deep fry? This AFCON is only for teams that are winning like Ghana etc not us Zambians, for us, we turn our attention somewhere else and hopefully have Kalu out soon, so for Ghana people..no disrespect, do you talking on your ghanasoccernet as you stand a better chance to have better football discussion unless you just want to talk trash here. good luck to your team hope you win it all.

    • GHANA TO THE SEMI FINAL FOR THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE TIME. Even without a trophy, this is a team to reckon with.
THREE CONSECUTIVE WORLD CUP APPEARANCES. Bravo Ghana. One of Africa’s Soccer Giants.

  2. Let’s face it gentlemen, CURRENTLY both Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire are miles superior to us. We are jokers. We need to put our house in order, HONESTLY speaking. Who said RENARD was a pathetic coach? Check his impact on the Ivorian players. Finals most likely Ghana/Cote d’Ivoire, with RENARD probably going to make history so that “PEOPLE” will hug transformers en mass for labeling him pathetic.

    • DONT SAY THAT MR ARMED GUNMAN, WAT I THOUGHT WAS THE COACH SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED SOME OF THE OLD FEETS IN THE EAM.. SOMEBODY LIKE KATONGO AND MBESUMA ETC..AT LEAST 3 OLD LEGS COULD HAVE HELPED THE CHIPOS..THE PLAYERS WERE TOO YOUNG..ANYWAY, THEY WILL LEARN FROM THEM NEXT TIME..

  3. The secret to Ghana’s success is that we blend experience black stars players with jr players who are playing very well in european leagues, most Ghanaian young players are unknown but very experienced even before entering the black stars.
    Ivory coast does same.

  4. The secret to Ghana’s success is that we blend experience black stars players with jr players who are playing very well in european leagues, most Ghanaian young players are unknown but very experienced even before entering the black stars.
    Ivory coast does same.
Ghanaian players become pros at young ages.

  5. RENARDS ELEPHANTS QUALIFIED TO THE SEMIS..WHO KNOWS, MAY BE GHANA AND IVORY COAST WILL GOES TO THE FINALS..

    IVORY COAST-3 ALGERIA–1

  6. They are MIA (Missing In Action). They are the most despicable Africans who have tried relentlessly to cause acrimonious relations between Ghana (Kwame Nkrumah ) and our dear Zambia (Kenneth Kaunda). Forget about Paradox & Mumbi and look up to ROK(a prospective Zambian president if not Africa) and POSITIVE THINKING. May God bless these dedicated Africans (ROK & Positive Thinking).

  7. Congrats to Ghana and Ivory Coast as well as DRC and the hosts for making the semis. HR conceeded that Algeria were the best team and it had to take a certain tactical approach to beat a team better than yours. For all I care this man is damned good at his work. No point pretending to be better than you really are. That’s exactly our problem in zambia. Our players must strive to penetrate european leagues when they are still teenagers not when they’re 25+. Good point @ citizenmike (Ghanaian players turning pro when they are still young).

  8. Herve Renard……you never know what you’ve gone till it’s gone.
Pathetic Renard is delivering for CIV
    My conclusions?
He has better material to perform his duties effectively compared to the Chipolopolo boys whom he had big influence.
With time,he could have fashioned a formidable team for Zambia but was unfortunately chased out by loud mouths like John
Coaching is about time and faith and not mere rhetoric
    A word,to a wise.

  9. Herve Renard is a pathetic coach don’t be fooled by the happenings at the ongoing can. Ivory Coast is filled with class and talent with the likes of max gradel, bony, gervinho, yaya toure etc this classy elephants can dismantle even Brazil. Herve Renard is being made to look so good by the class on the pitch. As for Ghana their secret is youth and the fact that they always qualify to the world youth cup. We Zambians should stop dreaming that we can fluke afcon again with local players. We need European stars. The u-17 and u-20 must go to the world cup this year. I have been saying it on all the blogs.

    • Looool -THATS IS MY GOOD OLD FRIEND -JOHN Keekekekekeke!!

BUT JOHN, REMEMBER PLAYERS NEEDS SOMEBODY TO LOOK UP TO PLAY
FOOTBALL..HERVE RENARDS HAVE WON AFCON WITH THE CHIPOS B4
HENCE, THE ELEPHANTS CHOOSED HIM TO LEAD OR TO BE A COACH TO THE ELEPHANTS..I BELIEVE IVORY COAST HAVE A LOT GOOD PLAYERS THAN THE CHIPOS BUT, THE ELEPHANTS NEEDED SOMEBODY LIKE HERVE WHO HAVE WON AFCON B4 TO LEAD THEM..ANYWAY , GOOD MORNING TO A

    • Only you John. Your myopic view of Renard will continue to distort your reasoning. Many a coach have coached talented sides not had success, Carlos Quiroz of Portugal, Tele Santana Brazil in the 80’s, Kwesi Appiah Ghana, Allain Giresse Senegal, and any other coach of Ivorycoast in the past 10 years.

Great players do not equal success. If that were the case, Nigeria, Ivorycoast, Ghana would have the monopoly on AFCON. You need to give credit where it is due. I bet you are right now praying Ivorycoast to lose so that you can comeback and feel vindicated. Well, you better pray they win, coz knowing FAZ; if Renard gets fired they will probably go back to hiring him for Zambia again.

  10. Europe, Europe, Europe that’s the answer to zambian football stop dreaming that local players can continue fluking afcon. If you don’t have players that have been to the world youth cup and play in Europe stop dreaming about afcon title.

  11. Hahaha – a pathetic coach who has a winners medal after leading an average team? Having star players alone does not guarantee success my brother. Zambia has had far stronger squads in the past but success eluded us. Cameron, Senegal the list is endless. HR not being your cup of tea shouldn’t stop you giving the guy credit. You can cry rivers of how pathetic he is but he’s surely having the last laugh.

  12. HR’s record in AFCON

    Trophies 1

    Games 16

    Wins 6

    Draws 9

    Loses 1

Not so bad a record but this shows that the guy is more of a defensive coach than attacking. This is why blogers were so critical about him, so many draws. HR is a team players and i wont be surprised to see him win it but DRC is dangerous and they might spring a big surprise. Good luck to Ghana its been plain sailing for you guys, you know if you had met us at one time you would sweat for it.

    • SUP —AMAAANDLA!!

WELL, AMANDLA,, WORK WORK WORK BUDDY..MY SON WAS VERY HAPPY WHEN THE BLACK STARS WON..HE WAS DANCING PAL.. hehehehehehe.. ANYWAY, GOOD AFTERNOON…LOOOONG TIME BUDDY..
Umm!! U WENT ON HOLIDAYS RIGHT??..COS KWAME HAVENT HEARD
FROM AMAAAAANDLA SINCE ZAMFOOT WAS CHANGED..

  13. oh please, thats whats they said before and zambia nd egypt proved them wrong. its the season…it’ll come and go. also europe is the temporary fix for ur (african) football…improving leagues and establishing proper infrastructures are the long term key to fixing ur football
. its unfortunate egypt have fallen off due to fatigue and political turmoil otherwise they’d still be unstoppable. power of a good league structure with visionary leaders.

  14. HR IS A GOOD COACH.SOMEBODY SHOULD NOT COME HERE AND TELL US HE IS COACHING A TEAM FULL OF STARS.WERE THE STARS NOT THERE WHEN ZAMBIA BEAT CIV?

  15. Avram Grant has made a remarkable impact he has made Black Stars a systematized side, plus they play as a team, so distinct from the Black Stars who more often than not plays individualistic and less fluid football. He has Wakaso and Acquah fitting in well into the defensive midfield role.

    • Talking about paradox? The clueless guy who always compares us to the likes of Ghana, Nigeria & Ivory Coast. These nations are miles ahead of us in football, whether we admit it or not

  16. Herve Renard is a good coach that’s the reason why he attracted a good offer. If you are good you create the demand. John is never consistent in what he puts across.

    I guess most of you bloggers will agree with me that the problem with Zambian soccer lies in packaging(marketing) and Administration. Its no doubt that Zambia has technically gifted players. Our problems are as follows;
-We have no soccer agent with exception of one his name should be chiti if iam not mistaken
-Soccer Administrators are not doing their job. Look at the timings, always late for our fixtures, coupled with not giving coaches contracts or just hiring novices as coaches
-Our players mental fortitude is worth looking at. It appears they reach a point in their career were they feel they have achieved it all…levels of contentment settle in quicker
-Lack of proper youth structures/academies-you cant reap results without proper planning

I also want to disagree with some bloggers that winning AFCON requires players from Europe. Its a fallacy. Football is a team sport and its not individuals that give you results. Zambia won 2012 Afcon because they played as a team and nothing else.

Lets be objective and forget emotions….
