Arsenal coach urged to buy Zambian Under-20 star

A Zambian fan of English side Arsenal has pleaded with their under fire manager Arsene Wenger to buy Junior Chipolopolo star Fashion Sakala.

The 20 year old has helped Zambia reach its first ever CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations final.

Sakala, who has joined Russian side Spartak Moscow B side from Zambian Champions Zanaco has scored three goals including a contender for goal of the tournament.

The boy from Kummawa is expected to leave for Russia on the 18th March.

On Wednesday night, Sakala helped Zambia beat South Africa in the semi finals.

Having beaten Amajita twice in the last few months, 2-1 in the regional COSAFA U-20 Cup and the same scoreline in a friendly, the Junior Chipolopolo were highly favoured to complete a treble over their neighbours.

But it did not come on a silver platter, against a South African side that were rarely intimidated by the huge turnout at the 60,000-capacity stadium, giving the host their stiffest test in the tournament thus far.

With a balanced defence, Amajita was the better of the two sides in the opening minutes, winning three corner kicks in succession by the quarter-hour mark.

After a first half with no clear cut chance at goal, both teams resumed strongly and with former Zambia coach Herve Renard in the stands, the Chipolopolo soon began to find their feet.

Enock Mwepu was unlucky to break the deadlock when a clearance by a South African defender bounced off his body only for the post to deny him. Just on the stroke of full time, Mpoto was to his side’s rescue with a superb save off a Patson Daka goal bound shot to force the game into extra time.

During extra time, Chilufya settled matter with a flicking header from Chilufya curling shot from a free-kick to send the crowd at the packed stadium onto the cloud nine.

Fashion Sakala has scored three goals. He is joint second top scorer with Patson Daka

Zambia will now play the winner of Thursday’s other semi-final between Senegal and Guinea in Ndola in Sunday’s final, whilst South Africa faces the loser in the battle for bronze.

  1. No matter How hungry a goat is, it can never go to graze in a game park. It’s not safe. That’s a different level mama. Talking of Arsenal is being over ambitious

  2. Cmon Zamfoot.. Atleast add an ‘lol’so we kinow thisn is not serious news. Spmething to read all the same, I guess.

  3. to you truth…. Please quickly find a cure for your inferiority complex. What is arsenal for you to say a zambian player like fashion sakala patison daka etc can not qualify to play there? Be proud of what you have in your yard not in england where most of you who support foreign teams will never even step a foot. Mind you even our own zesco or zanaco can match and play any team in europe. Zesco almost featured at the world cup of clubs while arsenal was no where near. Our country zambia at any time has produced world class players. Talk of charles musonda. Kalu. In 1992 a tv program called contact magazine televised a 30 minute documentary just talking about charles musonda. Be pround. Our own are the best

    • Being realistic always helps. You think you just wake up in the morning and say now am going to play for Arsenal?

  4. In a perfect world, I would hope the lads waited till after the Worldcup to make their moves, but we all know how the vultures work in this business. I already saw Katumbi in the stands so I will not be surprised to see someone crossing the border to Lubumbashi. I pray that these lads can be patient enough to avoid moves to other African leagues as that is a definite career killer.

  5. Ifyamba ba ZamFoot you post like its happening or a truth? Come on guys dont go off from what we know you for; that is giving us reliable football news. This is really misleading I dont even know how this girl found herself a page on ZamFoot, anyway that not our business you know why but just give us reliable data.

  6. Fashion sakala, enock mwepu, emmanuel banda, boyd musonda, edward chilufya and patson daka they are world class players they can play for any club in this world. To be where they are today its because of talent. Do underrate them.. They can play for a bigger club than aserneal.

  7. there will b a player at arsenal called fashion sakala. kkk. i wud like to meet this fun who even has the abillity to bargain with wenger

  8. What! Fashion for Arsenal? Come on Serenje, boys and girls on this blog dont b stupid. this is an important soccer blog. The boy, Mwepu, is the only one with the talent and physicality to maybe join a team in EF!LEven there he wud struggle. Our friends in North an West Africa send their boys to Div 2 and 3 in Europe. After abt 2yrs, they may b ready to move up to bigger teams! Lets not subject our boys to riducule when they flop at big teams! The talent is there of course, lets nurture it.

  9. I spent some time this week watching European Youth Football on DSTV. A good number of the players are West African, South American and East European boys attached to Ajax, Real Madrid, Barca, Porto etc. Most of them r on loan agreement or free transfer, with a proviso to get a percentage of the sell on fees. In Zambia we want to chew now!!

  10. I am extremely surprised to learn that some people think Zambian players cannot make it in europe. It has happened before and it will 99% happen again. With Proper management of these young boys ,the sky is the limit for them.In fact most of our players are far much better than those we see in Europe especially the English premier league which we watch a lot. They just need correct guidance and self discipline and they can make it just like any other player in Africa and Europe. Zambians are naturally talented in football but only lack self discipline and proper management.LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FINAL ON SUNDAY.

  11. Kensplash……Of all the locally based youngsters, better than players in th English premier league, in the last 30yrs, was a youngster playing for Mufulira Blackpool.; nicknamed “Ba Lesa”.Ask Kalusha or Kaumba! These two on BBc interview described him as a ‘player who comes along once in a lifetime” That was Alex Chola! With due respect, the current U20 r just above average and no better than any EPL players we watch!!

  12. How be happy to see my own country playing at arsenal. Fashion God bless you and may his Grace be up on you and you will make it,let unbelievers to believe and believers to shame devil
