Zimbabwe to use Levy Mwanawasa Stadium for AFCON Qualifiers

Zimbabwe will play their home matches in Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Stadia in Zimbabwe are not fit to host international matches.

It’s not just stadia issues that ZIFA need to sort out, the country still remain suspended by FIFA for government interference.

Zimbabwe are in Group K along with Morocco, South Africa, and Liberia in qualifiers for next year’s tournament to be played in Ivory Coast from June 23 – July 23.

The Warriors will be on the Copperbelt on May 30 for a ‘home tie’ against Liberia.

They will then face a short trip to South Africa for the June 14 clash in the Limpopo derby.

Matchday 3 and 4 will be played in September and will see the Knowledge Musonda captain side play back to back ties against Morocco including one in Ndola.

Next year in March, Zimbabwe will travel in Liberia before ‘hosting’ Bafana Bafana in Ndola in the final group match.

Zimbabwe Football Association Communications manager Xolisani Gwesela has confirmed the development.

“We have until Friday next week to submit the venue that shall host our home matches for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers,” he has been quoted

“We approached Zambia since our Stadiums were condemned by CAF and we wanted to use National heroes stadium in Lusaka , unfortunately their National team will be using same stadium for the qualifiers.

“The stadium that is available is Levy Mwanawasa in Copperbelt, 316KM from Lusaka. From the look of things if our suspension is lifted , we are most likely going to use Levy Mwanawasa Stadium for our home matches,” aays the Zifa communications manager.
