The Zambia Women’s National Team will be looking to make it to a second straight final when they take on Zimbabwe this afternoon in the semifinal of the ongoing 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship.
The Copper Queens are the defending Champions having won the Competition last year.
Zambia booked their semi-final ticket after finishing group B as winners with seven points while Zimbabwe were winners of group C with the same number of points.
The last time the two teams met was back in 2019 at Nkoloma Stadium in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifiers and Zambia carried the day winning 5-0 aided by a Grace Chanda hat-trick.
Prior to that Zambia beat Zimbabwe 2-1 away in Harare in a 2018 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier thanks to goals from Hellen Chanda and Barbra Banda.
The Mighty Warriors are eying to reach their fourth final and first since 2017.
The technical bench are expected to make only a few changes to their starting line up with a number of players expected to maintain their places.
Leticia Lungu and Ng’ambo Musole will battle for the starting berth between the sticks.
Lushomo Mweemba is expected to continue her impressive run at the heart of defence and will partner either Esther Banda, Pauline Zulu or Vast Phiri.
Esther Siamfuko is expected to start at right back with Judith Soko needing a late fitness test before knowing whether she will play or not.
In midfield, the technical bench seems happy with the combination of Susan Banda and Evarine Susan Katongo.
Sarah Jere and Friday Kabwe are expected to lead the attack with Enelesi Phiri and Salome Phiri expected to be in the wings.
Kick off at the Lucas Moripe Stadium is set for 12h00 and the match will be live on SuperSport, FIFA+ and SABC Sport.
The match will be followed by the second semi-final involving Malawi and Mozambique which will kick off at 15h30.
