Zesco Utd legend to lead Kenya at Cosafa Cup

Former Zesco United midfielder Anthony Akumu has been named in the Kenya squad for the upcoming Cosafa Cup in South Africa.

The 31 year old is one of the experienced players in the Harambee Stars squad mostly made up under-23 players.

Akumu was part of the Zesco United side which included the likes Jacob Banda, Mwape ‘Tozizi’ Mwelwa, Winstone Kalengo and compatriot Jesse Were.

Zanaco midfielder John Ochieng is also in the squad.

U18 prodigies Amos Wanjala and Aldrine Kibet, who made a mark at last year’s CECAFA U18 Championships.

The team will be under the guidance of Harambee Stars assistant coach Ken Odhiambo. His compatriot in the senior national team, William Muluya, will support him.

In the meantime, preparations for the regional showpiece kick off on June 20, 2024, when the team starts residential training in Nairobi.

The 2024 COSAFA Cup is set to be hosted in South Africa from June 26 to July 7, 2024.
