League favorites Zesco United have started the 2017 season well with an assured performance that saw them beat Konkola Blades 2 – 0 at home.
It was the perfect start for the Zlatko Krmpotic coached side after perennial favorites Zanaco, Power Dynamos, Nkana and the like all dropped points in the opening couple of weeks.
Striker Lazarous Kambole was introduced in the 40th minute for Mwape Mwelwa and it took him only five minutes to put the home side from a Fackson Kapumbu cross.
Jesse Were could have added a second in the 74th minute but he failed to convert from the penalty after Idriss Mbombo was fouled in the box.
Mbombo however made no mistake as he converted another Kapumbu cross this time from a free kick to give Zesco a two goal cushion.
Blades beat Green Buffaloes in the opening match.
