Back2Back: Zega Mambo…Zescolo retain league title

Zesco United yesterday sealed the Super League title despite being held to a 1 – 1 draw by local rivals Forest Rangers.

Needing only a point to be retain the title, Zesco did not delay in showing intent with league top scorer Winston Kalengo extending his tally when he put Zesco ahead in the lead in the fourth minute with a header, making it his 17th goal of the season.

Mwape Mwelwa’s free-kick found Lazarous Kambole who placed it to Kalengo to head past goalkeeper Makasa Mufwaya.

Zesco suffered a setback on 42 minute when referee Milton Mweemba sent defender Simon Silwimba s for an early shower for a second bookable offence.

Kasanshi Lupiya in the 54th minute nodded in Innocent Mwaba’s cross on 65 minutes beating goalkeeper Jacob Banda.

Zesco assistant coach Tenant Chembo was sent to the stands for arguing with the referee in the 67th minute.

This is the fifth title for the Ndola side who are quite new on the Zambian soccer scene having previously won the title in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2014.

  1. Good for them were the best and consistance side of the season deserved to be crowned what with chi kalengoal banging those goals from left right and centre,me still devil kalampa till i die.
