Zambian Super League champions Zanaco have requested the Zambia U20 national team technical bench to release midfielder Boyd Musonda for their CAF Champions League match against Young Africans of Tanzania this weekend.
Zanaco coach Numba Mumamba has said his team is facing a crisis in midfield and they have since engaged the national team to request for the services of Musonda.
“We have only requested for Boyd Musonda since we have enough cover in the goalkeeping department so we have told them they can keep Mangani Banda so that they are safe that side,” Numba told ZNBC.
Zanaco play Yanga in the first round first leg encounter away in Tanzania.
Yanga are coached by former Zesco United coach George Lwandamina and have Aubrey Chirwa and Justin Zulu in their ranks, this Saturday.
The U20 anchorman featured both in he home and away game for Zanaco when they edged APR of Rwanda.
Zanaco have a thin squad and only listed Musonda and Richard Kasonde in their initial squad submitted to CAF as the two midfielders.
With the departure of Isaac Chansa, Rodrick Kabwe, Salulani Phiri and Potipher Zulu only Enerst Mbewe or Saith Sakala may be available to partner Kasonde in midfield.
The 19 year old 2016 Cosafa U20 championship player of the tournament has been instrumental in helping Zambia to the semi finals of the U20 Africa Cup featuring in all the group matches.
If the jersey #21 is released to play for Zanaco on Saturday, he will not be available for he final on Sunday or the third and fourth place play off depending on the result against South Africa.
we had a situation like this sometime ago were Manase Mwanza was needed by the national team and at the same time, Nchanga rangers had equally a crucial game. an agreement was made, he plays for his club in chingola then immediately after the game, he his flown to Lusaka for national duty with the national team in the following day.
I remember the same happened to Elijah Tana, when at one point a jet was waiting for him after playing for Zambia to carry him back to Saudi Arabia were his club was to play an important game the following day.

In fact, the trip was the other way round. The jet actually flew him from Saudi Arabia into South Africa after a crucial game that el ittihad had to play. I think the request by mumamba is unrealistic. He said sometime back that at Zanaco they put the interest of the players first and that’s why he allowed the other 7 players to leave the club when he needed them the most. Let him leave the boy alone to complete the national duty first, intact the boy is overworked already and needs to rest after the tournament.
National team is bigger and important than Zanaco, what is Mumamba thinking? Did he not know that Zambia would be playing in the AFCON u20 when he was releasing chansa and all those players that left without replacements? Boyd Musonda will be playing in Europe come summer time, so Mumamba and company need to get used to it and find replacements for this weekends Zanaco’s fixture and going forward, Mumamba need to improvised and forget about Boyd Musonda. I repeat, a lot of us don’t give a damn about Zanaco, they will lose in the later stages anyways to those Arabs and West Africans and won’t make us proud as the u20 is doing right now, so move on Mamamba, u20 rates higher. Infact Edger Lungu will visit if you continue to distabilizing our u-20 as I have see Mr Chagwa being happy in the stands. Don’t screw us up Mumamba, Thank you

I’m a Zanco fan but only having two midfielders on the squad is a failure of management. The game against the Tanzanians is a two-legged affair, just play hard in the return leg. Zambians will eat this coach alive. The objective is to now win the cup after qualifying to the world cup so please lets not mess with that

ZANACO want their player. They want to remove him from the limelight of world scouts who have assembled in Zambia to scouts in Tanzania. They assured us that they can’t stand in a players way. So I am sure they would rather quickly sell him to a Pemba or a Zanzibari team, than out there where the real challenges are.

Its a tricky one considering Zanaco are also representing the nation at the CAF games but then the old saying comes to mind “don’t make your lack of planning my emergency”. Zanaco knew of the U20 tournament long ago and also knew of their game long ago, this is the utmost example of extreme poor planning. Leave the youngster alone to keep shinning and make a mark for his career. But Nostra is right, Zamabian coaches have a silly habit of getting petty and might turn this situation onto the player and not play him after the Afcon tournament.
