Zanaco beat Yanga in front of 60, 000 fans

Zambia Super League side Sensational ZANACO on Sunday came from a goal down to beat Tanzanian outfit, Young Africans (YANGA SC) 2-1 in an international club friendly match.

YANGA was the first to strike just after the half-hour mark with Heritier Ebenezer Malambo netting a brilliant goal after sending two ZANACO defenders to the cleaners in the process before putting the ball in the roof of the net.

The Kelvin Kaindu-coached Bankers were the better team in the first half but they did not make use of their possession in the final third.

Whatever the former Power Dynamos and Nkana boss told them at the break worked as new signing Ackim Mumba drew level 16 minutes into the second half benefiting from some poor communication at the back. The ball found Mumba in acres of space in the area unmarked and he picked his spot with ease to make it 1-1.

Thirteen minutes later midfielder Kelvin Kapumbu put the Bankers in the lead with a fantastic curved shot from the edge of the box to make it 2-1.

Zambia’s representatives in the CAF Champions League held on to win the match 2-1, beating YANGA in front of a fully packed 60,000 capacity Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

The match will be played on the Citizens’ Day that falls every year which is probably the biggest day for football fans in Tanzania, especially Yanga.
