Qatar World Cup: No room for Mweene and Fashion as Mwepu and Daka make the cut

Zambia national team head coach Beston Chambeshi has finally named his final 22 member squad for next month’s back-to-back Qatar World Cup qualifiers against Mauritania and Tunisia.

Chambeshi has included England based duo of Enock Mwepu and Patson Daka who are expected to link up with their teammates tomorrow. The duo available has been uncertain in the last few days after the Premier League released a statement that clubs will not release players for international games in red-list countries five days ago.

Denmark-based Lubambo Musonda has also made the cut as confirmed by the ZamFoot Crew and will join his teammates later today.

Sweden-based forward Edward Chilufya makes a return to the Chipolopolo Boys set up for the first time since October 2020 during the friendly match against Kenya.

Evans Kangwa and Augustine Mulenga are out of the two matches due to injuries.

South Africa-based goalkeeper Cyril Chibwe has also made the cut but there is no space for Kennedy Mweene, Emmanuel Banda, Klings Kangwa, and Lameck Banda.

Fashion Sakala who just returned to fitness has also been left out of the squad.

Zambia will be away to Mauritania on September 3 before hosting Tunisia four days later in Ndola at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Group B matches.

The Chipolopolo are in the same group as Tunisia, Mauritania, and Equatorial Guinea.

Only 10 group winners will qualify to the final round where teams will be paired in two-legged knockout ties.

The five winners will qualify for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

  1. This is a poor squad, how do you call player’s without a club? The defense looks like its going for coasafa and this is a world cup qualifier.
The goal keeper section is not good. Defense very poor, striker’s Patson well his not been performing as expected he will be marked by two defenders. Brian Mwila wasn’t supposed to make it on that list. I see Zambia collecting 1 point out of 6 I not losing both matches.

  2. Why people saying good team selection . The team looks very weak in all department and lacked experienced players. The defence is the weakest department. The north Africans they have very trick and experienced strike force What this coach did is to drop players who were used by micho and some of the players he dosent like . Can you imagin emmanuel banda is missing on that list and he prefered body musonda. The team also lacks depth. Lastly he repeated the same mistake done by micho. He dropped experienced players. Though the team looks very weak on paper i wish them good luck.

  3. I agree with you, Emanuel Banda should definitely be in this team. He’s become a regular for his club this season and scored twice in the current campaign. Leaving him out and taking unattached and inexperienced Prince Mumba is a tragidi. We need the experience of Sunzu in that defence and Keneddy Mweene among the keepers. Rally Bwalya should be in instead of Boyd Musonda aswell as the experienced Nathan Sinkala. Fashion Sakala should have been called aswell because he’s injury was short term, if not fit enough he could be used as a super sub! This squad is rubbish in my opinion and one of the worst Zambian squads I’ve seen in years when you look at the players that are available!

  4. We have a big problem. Why has this useless coach decided to leave out players like Emanuel Banda? What is he thinking? Chambeshi is a problem the man knows nothing. How do you select players that are club less? Anyway he said it all, he is going for a draw and that a win will be a bonus. Such talk from a coach sends negative signals. The fact is that no Zambian is qualified to coach the National Team and that is that. This all bullshit points at FAZ. Kamanga is in FAZ to enrich himself and nothing else. We can as well label ourselves as ordinary participants. With Chambeshi as coach we will never get anywhere. It is my conclusion

  5. it is true this is the weakest team zambia has ever assembled, the problem with our coaches is that they like experimenting in crucial matches,

  6. Criticism help to build a strong team. The coach can make some adjustments. Against Tunisia he should do something. If kamanga is not involved into this deal of marketing players should question this selection or bar coach call locals for national duty.

  7. The problem with many of our coaches is that they have preferred players even if they are not performing well…As others have said you can’t prefer Boyd to Banda and Larry, What’s is going on?
Kennedy Mweene you keep on omitting is having a great time saving 3 or let me say 4 penalty in a roll…What else do you want from a goalkeeper?

  8. You people when you get a foreign coach ,if fails you fire him immediately.Kananga has been the FAZ president for along time and in his regime he has not achieved anything.can you get rid of him .you will see the difference .

  9. @ slim. I can not mention but the team selection tells a lot. Why is that when a player is given an opportunity if they got a foreign club they dump them. If they are not marketing players why did he picked clubless players and he leave Paul katema , Larry bwalya , emmanuel banda, mwila phiri and Moses phiri.

  10. I dont agree that he can’t take us some where . it was him who won under 20 Africa cup. But mweene is still performing i was surprised how he saved 4 penalties. So Chambeshi don’t disappoint us.if you like this job say no to corruption and right players .

  12. I hope we wait to see good performance for the selected team.but my big concern is we can’t only select team whereby the is not seniors no!! At least bring four experience players. Players like sunzu, mweene, chisamba lungu and chimanga then we can achieve.

  13. Bushe cinshi mushitilako ama player abakwatako experience iyi boll te friend iyo.ama player nga sunzu, chamanga, mweene, chisamba, sinkala
