Kafue Celtic defender Mathews Banda is set to take the next step in his career after signing a long-term contract with Czech First League side Bohemians Praha 1905.
Bohemians Praha took to their official website to confirm the development. The youngster joins Chipolopolo teammate Benson Sakala at the club.
The 20-year-old international defender arrives in Vršovice following a loan spell at record 13 time MTN Super League Champions, Nkana FC and a growing reputation with the Chipolopolo.
Banda featured in all three of Zambia’s matches at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, having previously made his senior debut just after turning 20. He had earlier represented Zambia at under-20 level, making his debut at 17 years and six months.
In 2022, Banda gained valuable experience during a two-week trial with Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg, and his performances in the Zambian league, including at Nkana FC, helped him attract interest from clubs in Morocco and Spain before finalising the move to Bohemians.
Bohemians director Darek Jakubowicz described Banda as “a very young player with enormous potential,” confirming the defender has been registered with the Czech Football Association and is finalising the necessary documentation and visas before joining the squad.
